The Most Popular Hair Cuts, Styles And Colours For Winter

In the same way a change in season can influence our makeup and fragrance choices, it often prompts us to want to update our hair, too.

So if this winter weather has got you thinking about a new hair colour,  a change in hairstyle (hello fringe!) or length, you’ve come to the right place. From the biggest hair makeovers to a subtle change in hair part, there are endless ways to refresh your look.

Whatever degree of inspiration you’re looking for, click through our gallery below to see the top nine biggest hair trends of the season.

CHUNKY BRAIDS

There’s never been a better time to learn how to braid. And with most of us attempting to hide regrowth,  the chunkier the better.

Try dusting a little voluminising powder onto your plait before pulling apart to add grit and volume.

FLICK ‘N FLIP

Flicked-out ends and side fringes are back. Ideal for post-pixie cut growth or a bob on day three, this style works best with slightly dirty hair, and clips to secure.

bh recommends: Lady Jayne One Touch Clips

SLEPT-IN PLAITS

These slightly imperfect and tighter waves can be created in a flash with a narrow curling wand, or overnight by sleeping in plaits. Similar to the sock curls trend,  the more sections you weave, the tighter the curl.

SOFT BALAYAGE

Platinum blonde has ruled the highlight world for a while now, but as we all get cosier at home (and less inclined for monthly root touch-ups) soft balayage is the solution.

Think slightly dustier roots, blended seamlessly into cooler ends.

THE MODERN SHAG

Taking cue from Taylor Swift at the 2019 VMAs, the shoulder-grazing and full-fringe modern shag is the ultimate ‘cool girl’ cut.

Add movement and texture by curling sections in alternate directions, and then secure with hairspray.

bh recommends: Schwarzkopf Extra Care Strong Styling Hairspray

THE CURLY SHAG

The modern shag transcends textures; suiting straight, wavy and curly hair in the same. Those with coils should prep with a hydrating balm, and then run a dry oil through ends to seal the style and keep curls defined.

bh recommends: IGK Mistress Hydrating Hair Balm ($44, Sephora) and Botáni Coconut Glow Body & Hair Oil

SLEEK BUN

Finally, a style that’ll suit day 12 of our unwashed iso hair. The signature of this season’s slicked back bun is to keep your middle part visible, then simply sweep hair upwards on each side. Smooth any flyaways with styling cream and a dense kabuki brush (yes really).

bh recommends: ELEVEN Medium Hold Styling Cream

TANGERINE DREAMS

If you’ve always wondered what life would be like as a redhead, we say DO IT. This glorious golden sunset colour will satisfy all your transformation cravings. And who knows, you might even keep it forever.

bh recommends: John Frieda Radiant Red® Red Boosting Shampoo

STRUCTURED CUTS

Remember when all we ever asked for was layers? Well, throw that out the window because structured cuts are back. This chin-skimming bob manages to walk the line between polished and edgy and we love it.

  1. Braided hair looks lovely on the young beauties, but as we mature, we need simple sleek or stylish hair styles that are easy to maintain At least, that is what I am seeking, and at the moment it is just a pony tail, nothing fancy at all.

  2. As you styling of hair is the desire of almost every girl and women as the classical pony tail is very inspiring and attractive for many women , some girls and old women have very concern of hair loss and they are very keen to get rid of hair loss , as the latest treds is towords hair transplant surgery it is very effective as one of the best Pakistan hair tranplant surgery produce excellent for both men and women equally..

  3. My hair at the moment isn't great haha. I've decided to go back to my natural colour so I have a good chunk of regrowth (a mousy brown) and the lengths are a faded brown [More like red/orange} I just need to put a toner through the ends and it'll be ok… I hope.

  4. Just like clothing all the fashions keep going around and around. I think you just have to find what you like personally and what you can manage on a day to day basis. I cannot have a fringe it just ends up giving me horns lol.

  5. These haircuts are amazing. Some of these could even be used in seasons other than winter. I'm not particularly eager to limit myself to one hairstyle to just one season alone. I would try to change it up and get creative. I like to mix and match similar hairstyles with different outfits from time to time.
