OK i just got inspired to ask and start this because i had a look at Beauty Stars newsh blog- and its sooooo cool!!

Im a science type person at heart (and under all my layers of being fashion /nails crazy) so i geek out at a lot of things.. i love cool science, clever things , and learin about it.

So what does it for you gals?

Reading the blog just now that Sarah (Beautystar) wrote i was really impressed with how well the complex ideas are put out.. that s a whole job in itself!
and for those who might understand.. the story of about thalidomide is really clear to follow , i cant beleive you tried to cover that, the idea behind steroisomers and L/D compound versions lol… Good for you beautystar!!

I never thought of myself being much of a geek, especially since my boyfriend is way better with computers than me, but everyone I know thinks i’m amazing with computers. I always helped my friends with problems with programs and stuff, and I know quite a lot about the hardware side of things now (my boyfriend has taught me a lot since doing his tafe course). I’m also a tiny bit of a gamer. I love games like the Sims (1, 2 and 3) and Dragon Age and RPGs. Thankfully gaming isn’t just for geeks anymore. I became addicted to a fashion game on the DS for a few months 😛

At the moment i’m doing my Community Welfare Diploma so i’m learning (well know most of the stuff they’re teaching actually :P) about lots of stuff like Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol issues, Counselling, Psychology, etc. I think it’s always good to try and better yourself and improve your skills.

Also agree that learning is addicitive. I have always loved learning and even though I am not in a formal study mode anymore, I continue to read up on areas that interest me. Topics range from mental health, well being, the brain and how it functions, philosophy, law, art, human rights….too many to list.

but you did list *some* ! 😉
i love knowing that so many of us are crazy on fashion and beauty but we are also full of depth and have a desire to learn and be well rounded.

    You are so right! 🙂

Great topic! ‘Geek out’ is a cute term :p

I have adored almost every subject (statistics is the exception!) that I have studied at university. The subjects include history, art, sociology, health, economics, psychology, philosophy, English Lit, social science, ethics and now I’m studying education.

I LOVE to read philosophy books that discuss current issues regarding the philosophy of contemporary society, human behaviour and psychology. Some of my favourites include Socrates, Bruno Latour, Jean Baudrillard and Sir Ken Robinson.

I love to read, watch educational documentaries and discuss contemporary issues. Learning is addictive!

Very impressive, the range and scope of subjects u cover.
I like the phrase you said – learning is addictive , ithink thts so true.

I am quite the same Beauty Star – i am very curious in nature and want to know lots. Im not obsessive over it i hope but i got told since i was a teen i lways like to be right, so its prob true in part.

I geek out over when science shows us how to do things ofthe future.. now.
And i love hearing smart ppl talk about a topic with passion.

As for ur blog, and the article about isomer molecules it was really well done coz ur right – any specialised area leads to pl using jargon. but in science the jargon is the worst and most intense and also where the greatest part of sociery is lacking knowledge.
so u have ot learn t osay it in lay term without seeming like u patronise ppls brains.
if u remember i had said i had adecently good friend (tho mostly hardly in contact for yrs) who came back form post doc in usa, who is scientist, he used to say – the example was who wnts to be a millionaire-.. that the Q for big money in history or art is usually so hard but if it was a science Q then a 250 or 500k Q might be just basic high school science coz ppl r so bad at it….
    and i agree.

    🙂

thanks for the kind words nat – the chirally correct article has been the hardest one to write so far. it gets tough translating science because I forget what is science jargon or common language ie there are some words in science that we use so often that i forget people out of science dont really use.

anyway, i geek out at everything. I literally have to know the answer to everything…if i ever dont know something i have to google it!!
