self tanners

I’m very fair. Even in summer I usually wear long pants, so my legs havent seen any decent sun in over 10 years. I’ve been trialing self tanning products over the last couple of months and I cant find anything worth the money I’m paying! Either I end up with a mottely look (especially at the base of my shin) or it looks like I’ve taken out a bottle of foundation and spread it over. My legs look darker, but it just looks like a haze….you can tell its fake and can see the pale skin under a golden hugh. IYKWIM?

Anyone got any ideas or suggestions? I’ve been thinking of trying a spray tan, but dont know wheather I’ll just have the same prob and how long it’ll last for. Any tips on either home self tanning or getting a spray job would be welcome! Thanks all, sorry for the long post!

i`ve used most brands out there, but my favourite is olay touch of sun gradual tanner… its a really natural colour, doesn`t have a gross smell and isn`t greasy.

    Hi Meaghan,
I also have very fair skin and by far the best fake tan i have found is Ella Bache Great Tan. It looks so natural, as it works with the natural pigments in your skin. Everyone I know who has used it swears by it (as do I), I would definately recommend it!!! Just make sure to exfoliate well before applying, use only a small amount of product (you can always do another layer later if you want it darker) and really rub/blend it into the skin to get a smooth looking result. Oh and you can also use this on your face and it works beautifully.
Hope it goes well for you, whatever product you end up using! 🙂

After using a couple of expensive products, such as Nutrimetics and Glamourflage, ( which would be good if used by someone a little more careful than I) I`ve found Johnson`s Holiday skin to be my favourite. I can slowly build my tan up to the level I want without fear of streaking, or ending up looking like Ross off of Friends….

Make sure you exfoliate well before you fake tan… that could be one of the reasons why its not looking that good. I am currently using the Le Tan Daily Glow. It is inexpensive, and is a gradual tanner, so you dont really have any problems with streaking or anything like that. Just remember to exfoliate every 5 or so days to keep it looking glowing and healthy

  • Johnson`s holiday skin body lotion is a gradual tanner and you can choose either fair to normal or normal to dark lotion to suit your skin. I`ve found that it`s really hydrating for the skin so no extra moisturisers are needed and it works really well for an even tan.

Palmers cocoa butter gradual self tan is the best tanning lotion, spray, or gel that I have ever come across, and I`ve tried alot of them.
It is absolutely fool proof, and next to impossible to stuff up. I`ve used other gradual tanners that I`ve needed to be so careful with around my heels and ankles, to avoid those orangey blotches that you can get when not applying properly, but I just slap this one on everywhere, and I`ve never once had that problem.
The colour is natural and when I use it, people always ask have I been tanning or to the beach, bacause it looks that much like a real tan 🙂
I`ve never turned orange, I only need to apply it once for the right colour, it smells great, just the same as regular Palmer`s cocoa butter, and it`s moisturises your skin while you tan.
To give you an idea of the smell, when I first started using it, my boyfriend was constantly asking me had I been eating marshmallows lol.
Because fake tan`s can be so temperamental according to skin type and natural colour, it`d probably be a good idea to do a test patch before purchase, but I`m fairly confident you`ll love it!

if you want a quick fix go to a tanning salon. but the problem there is it only lasts a couple of weeks and if you have a pool and swim in it reguarly it will come off in the pool (and you can actually see it in the bottom of the pool).

If you have the time I would recommend a gradual tanner such as the one by Sally hansen.

A tip to remember a week or so before you start doing your tanning (either in a salon or at home) make sure you exfoliate well coming up to the time when you are going to start using the tan and moisturises. This will help to take away dead skin cells and make your tan even

I`m currently road testing the Dove gradual tanner. It`s been 4 days and I`m not seein any significant difference though. A friend suggested the Palmers one, anyone used this??

The Lorea`l ones are really good.

I am pale like you. I have used Nivea and Avon products that are moisturisers with a gradual tan, these work around 5 days of application. Also remember to exfoliat well before application as this apparently can make the tan look baaaaaad.
