No shampoo method

Hi beauties,

I’m sure there’s a thread on this somewhere but I was just wondering if anyone has tried the no shampoo method for washing your hair?

Basically I think you just brush it out and wash it with just water and no shampoo and conditioner. It’s meant to be a bit greasy in the transition period but supposedly after that your hair is amazing without using any products!

So what do you guys think about this? Has anyone tried it or had any success with it?

I’d love to hear your thoughts, I wanted to try this out (it can’t be good to put chemicals on our hair for year and years on end) but I’m a little apprehensive.

Yeah this only thing I put in my hair on a regular basis is argan oil. I might give the no shampoo thing a go on the winter holidays so no one at uni needs to see me looking like a hobo!

wow that sounds interesting,i dont wash my hair with shampoo on a regular basis but use conditioner.but with all other product build up and the washing of hair with conditioner,i use shampoo to just cleanse out all that gunk.so i dont know how washing without shampoo would be.

I haven’t washed my hair for 3 days (had some back problems) and oh my gosh it’s AWFUL! itchy, lank, oily, after years of washing it once a week, twice a week, etc. I found that my hair responds best to everyday washing (know it’s probably not recommended), really at its best! going to wash it this morning and get it looking decent again!

My hair is good without washing for a good week. Actually, i did this challenge ages ago but did use apple cider vinegar when it got bad. Though i only lasted two weeks 😛
I never put product on my hair (except argon oil which tames everything) so my hair is soft/shiny and can stay that way for a good week without getting too oily or dry. Plus it’s thick as lead so i’m pretty lucky i guess.
I suggest Nda, you should try the no shampoo challenge. Not only is it interesting but it’s kinda fun too 😀 never hurts to try :]

Yeah I think it really would be for a specific hair type. I am keen to stop using chemicals on my hair though…I have really healthy hair and I feel I’m just ruining it with all this gunk.

Does anyone know of any natural ways to clean it? Like apple cider vinega…but with a less strong smell?

I would love to try this to see its effect on frizz.
The problem is that i scuba dive and snorkel regularly, and while water gets the sweat out from the gym, it’s not quite as effective on salt and sand.

I really do recommend ginger shampoo though! Through out asian history women have rubbed ginger in there head for relief of head aches, dandruff, itching, lice and for general healthy long shiny hair! im currently using one from the body shop:) used it for two weeks and I feel like my hair is really less oily!!

Ooh I forgot about the itching!

I think some health or science show on TV tried this a couple of years ago.

I can easily go withoout conditioner, but I cannot imagine going without washing my hair. My hair is just too oily to try that.
