Is this Reader’s Digest win a scam???

so today in the mail i got a letter from the Reader’s Digest Finance Department saying something about winning their sweepstake…
but the letter is a bit fishy like they dont use my first name and say things like what would you IF you are the winner of all this money….
and also i think i am a member but i have never entered into their sweepstakes before..

I just wanted to know if anyone else has received letters like this and is it a scam?

I rang my mum and asked her and she says yeah she has gotten those letters before and you have to fill out these documents then send them back to them so they can send you something else, and apparently its just a waste of time sending letters back and forth….

what do you think???

OMG this brings back memories. My dad gets all that stuff at least once a week. There may be a winner but i think there never is. I also have nit heard anyone win. Its like spam for mail lol instead of email spam

I have entered plenty of times but have never won anything with them, they just want you to subscribe, which I never do anyway, lol. They probably toss all the “NO” entries away anyway, haha. I have never known of anyone who has won it either, but have seen a few friends get their hopes up when they send out mail saying you could be one of the winners, ra ra ra. Something not right, if I hear of a winner then I will change my mind, lol

Yes fashionista just go and buy a lotto ticket.
It’s not a scam, they do get a winner but it takes forever till they actually draw the winner. In the meantime, every couple of weeks you get another letter saying, you are now 3 places away from winning BUT, you MUST send all this crap back. Plus they ask you to buy whatever the book is they are flogging at that time. That’s exactly what I did…..I sent all the crap back (with my name and address cut out). Hope they had fun with it.
the funniest thing is with Readers…..I get the letter that says congratulations you have now passed the first 3 stages and am qualified to win. Yet I never received a 1st stage letter.

lol! that reminds me of a Seinfeld(??) episode where one of them sends their junk mail in one of those prepaid envelopes lol

I used to get these too and ignored them. I don’t know how they got my address. I still ignore the ones they send in the mail but I subscribe to their e newsletter. They have lots of competitions and I actually won $220 worth of books from them last year. So while I will continue to ignore their sweepstake letters (what a waste of paper) I still enter some of their competitions if there is a prize that appeals to me. You can also sign up to be a product tester. It’s under their health and wellbeing section. I got to test Eyesential late last year – an under eye enhancer valued at $129.

i thought there was something up with it…..
i also googled it and they get a lot of people sucked in with these letters… which is so cruel….
well looks like im going to let this one go…. thanks for all your advice… and besides i think i would have better luck just buying a gold lotto ticket 😛

Yeah me and my mum entered them last year and it was ridiculus. We entered and then the next week we would have to send back another to confirm entry. And then the next week you would have to stick this to that yadda yadda and then send that to be in the sweepstakes. It’s just really really long winded. I think we ended up having to send about 8 different letters back and then gave up as it just got so silly.

I don’t think it is a scam because I have received documents with photos of previous prize winners with a celebrity and other evidence which suggests that a prize is won each year. I took it seriously last year and completed all documents on time but didn’t win even though I got to the final stage. It is time consuming and I am not going to bother with it again. It really is like winning lotto so unless you are really keen and willing to put the time into it, I wouldn’t bother. x
