Is it just me… or is this rude?

A woman just walked into the reception at my work. A woman walks whilst on her mobile phone and I ask if I could help her. She raised her hand to my face obviously telling me to “wait”, she then turns to face the wall, walks to our waiting table picks up a mint from the bowl and continues to talk on the phone and wander around. After 3 minutes she turns around to tell me she is here to pick up her order.
I honestly thought that this was rude. Am I just being silly and this is ok or is that just unacceptable?

That is very rude and really shouldn’t be tolerated, but what can you do with silly people like that?
I’ve had the same issue at work a few times this week. I work in a women’s medical centre and we have obvious signs stating that all mobiles should be switched off on arrival. Some patients choose to ignore those signs and common sense.
You can’t really do much about it, but if someone comes up to the desk wanting to be served and they answer their phone, we’ll just deal with the next patient and they can wait again, because really they don’t deserve to be served if they choose to ignore our rules.

Ahh..glad that’s out of my system.

i worked in retail and used to get this ALOT.
the answer is simple. as soon as someone does that, pick up the phone and make a call, call your mum and pretend to talk work if you have to, it just makes you that little bit unavailable when they hang up.
the trick is to do it just as they are about to finish their conversation. yes, i’m a wicked wicked woman.

Gotta say it, WHAT A BITCH!!!

If the call is that important then finish the damn thing before approaching someone. I used to work at a servo and I got to the point where if someone was on the phone when they came in to pay I’d say I’ll just serve the next customer while you finish your call. Not only is it extremely rude behaviour towards the person serving them but they don’t pay any attention and that’s when mistakes happen. I now work in a cafe and when I take an order I always repeat it back to the customer so if they come back and say this isn’t what I ordered I can say that I repeated the order back to you and you didn’t correct it. I always do this as people just do not pay any freaking attention which annoys the hell out of me. I’m not going to comp them a free meal or drink for a mistake that I didn’t make, so there stupid, annoying customer =D

How rude. Actually this happened with me, but the other way around. I was buying delicious bread from breadtop (does anyone know it? :D) and the lady walked up. She shocked my friend and I a bit for her loud voice on the telephone as she SERVED us. After registering the type of bread we were buying on the cashier, she just held out her hand, expecting the money.
NOT A WORD was spoken to us, the costumers and gosh, she had no mobile phone manners at all. Was completely booming into the phone in another language. I was fuming the whole day after that. Was not impressed at all.

I am in the grp agreement – the situation waqs rude, she didnt need to stop her call IF she also had manners to show u some place and respect. But starting while onthe phone itsefl was dumb.

and iconic – i eat breadtop plenty. soo good (taste), but so bad (unhealthy) 😛
im actully surprised that ur surprised at rude treatment.. since we r both asian, right? and the chain is always [well to excuse me..] FOBs , not ABCs in there.. so thety really lack some manners, in what ppl expect here in aus.. and go on n on in mando.

I think its rude. I dislike that people think they can speak and act in any rude manner they choose to people that are serving them. They are people too, yes they are at work but it doesn’t cost anything to be polite and say please, thankyou and treat the service member with basic manners and respect.

Very rude and so frustrating, I know customer service is a tough field to work in, especially as its really hard to bite your tongue and not say something when you come across people like this all the time, meh I have worked in customer service on and off plenty over the years but these days I prefer to stay in the background, dealing with people just really pushes my patience to the limit, haha. I think I have had my buttons pressed too many times and have developed a low tolerance for that kind of behavior, lol I am a firm believer of treating others how I would like to be treated, unfortunately not everyone has the same morals 🙁

Yep its rude, what makes it ruder is the fact she put her hand up. Argh I would have been very tempted to pick up the phone and done the same to her when she was ready to be served.
Haha I say tempted because I wouldn’t ever do it but the thought has definitely crossed my mind quite a few times!

That was what got me a little upset, is that she put her hand up to my face and turned around. Because she could have smiled and mouthed for me to give her a minute.
I don’t mind people standing in reception. It was more tha manner in which she did it.
