Cooking for one

I love cooking but I live by myself, so sometimes I’m limited to what I can make. Recently, I’ve started getting sick of making the same few things over and over again.
Any suggestions for quick, (preferably healthy) meals for one?

    My sister lives with a roomie but they both do their own cooking. I know she cooks a lot of pasta and freezes it for other nights. She likes to cook simple food because she works full time as a lawyer and doesn’t get home till late.
    She makes a killer curry with rice and again freezes the bulk of it.

    yep that sounds like my overall strategy.
    it means i can do 1 big shop a week, and then eat something yum right away,then cook a few big meals in 1 night and be done with it.
    the curries i do are thai (obviously!) green, red, masaman ones, and also i do japanese katsu curries, indian butter and korma versions , and have been recently adding in malaysian dry curries .

    This is a good thread… maybe i can also expand my cooking ideas.
    Ive lived on my own for 10 of my 11 yrs being in australia.
    ive had dogs pretty much all that time, but its cooking for 1, when its ppl food :p

    i actually find there is a LOT u can mke for 1 – coz u dotn need portions for 1, if u make food that is batch types, 1 big bowl, that u can eat over many meals or split up. that is how i do food for 80% of my meals. it heslp from my asian background btu really u can lear any cuisine, right?

    so i make a lot of curries, stir fries, and pastas/sauces. so things that u make 1 big base, and more noodles, rice etc can be made to go with it, meals can be frozen.. its easy.

    im happy ot drop in some ideas and recipes more specific if ppl ask.
    when i dont do those meals (and i do it coz it means i can just have 1-2 huge cooking sessions a week and then not have 2 worry).. i make a lot of snacks on crackers, and also salads, prob half are just green and vegies, half i throw in some chicken breast or tuna.

    im very muc ha cook it as u feel , and not using books really.

    Hey everyone 🙂 if u are on ur own and dont want to make a huge effort try the 4ingredients cookbooks, they have freat easy recipies and if it says it serves 4 just half the ingredients, u can also get a gluten free version of the book and download an app (which is hand if u are camping). 😀

    I HEAR YOU ALL LOL
    I been cooking for one now 3 years .I still seem to cook far too much . I freeze a lot of meals , meat and vegs for one , slow cooker gets a work out , when friends and family come over i go overboard and cook all fresh food any left overs go into dishes / contaner ect . my frozen meals come in handily for when i what something easy just pop in m/wave home made soup is always in my fridge.

    soups or dumplings are great as you can throw em in the freezer n just re heat when you want to eat:)

    I cook for one as i’m a vegetarian and even if I have company my meal is always different to theirs. I find freezing food a great tip so you can have varied meals easily by defrosting them as you like. I agree that pasta, salads, etc like mentioned already are great fast meals for 1 that don’t need much prep and can be made fresh and fast.

    Cooking for one? LOL What is that?! I have to confess, I hate cooking. I feel it is too much work for nothing, I am not really particular about taste etc. Having to cook for someone else is my only motivation. If I am alone, I almost never cook and live on Subway sandwiches lol

    Some of my lazy favourites are:
    Cup-a-Soup
    Rice noodles (thin ones which are done in hot water) with sauteed onions, peas and spices
    Instant noodles like Mee Goreng, Maggi
    Pot noodles: a very feisty flavour called Bombay Hot was my favourite. Not available here 🙁
    Lean Cuisine heat and eat ones
    Grilled cheese sandwich with loads of hot chilli sauce, yummm

    I also love those spiced curry pastes in Asian flavours (Lee Kum Kee, etc) which are so tasty and go well with streamed veggies. But so much work warrants dinner for two lol

    Iconic, that sounds like my kind of meal gonna try it!

    a quick stir fry, fry sliced meat, add some stir fry veggies and your faviourate sauce like black bean and serve by itself or some rice.

    Othawise a quick pasta, boil some pasta, then throw in some sliced black olives, tomotoe pesto and some salami.

    It all depends on the weather, hearty meals when its cold, lighter meals like salads when its warm.

    i love to look CURRY. delicious 🙂

    Also, i know it’s weird but i buy packets of frozen corn with peas and a bag of frozen mashed potatoe. Heat it up in the microwave and just mix it all up. It’s a really delicious snack; the peas and corns are crunchy, sweet and yummy ^^
