40th birthday party ideas – Help!

It’s my (eek!) 40th birthday soon and I want to have some kind of fun entertainment at my party. Problem is, I can’t really think of what to do.

I’ll be having it at home (not a huge amount of space) and my budget isn’t massive. Does anyone have any fantastic ideas???

You’re a bit late to the party TammiLiX as Susanjane’s 40th Birthday party is long gone – she’ll be celebrating her 48th!

    Spammers are a joke!

Thanks Melmeko, although I’m not entirely sure congrats are in order, turning 40 sounds so bleh. But at least, with all the great tips and products here on bh, I don’t have to look 40 – well, that’s what I’m clinging to anyway 🙂

Big congratulations on your milestone Susanjane, a couple more years and I will be there myself, hehe. I guess we are all different and have different ideas of a good time but I think my ideal 40th would be a laid back casual affair with a backyard party, with a fire and singsong happening at some point in the night (god I love listening to live music, and have plenty of friends who play the guitar, playing good old music that everyone loves to sing) naturally a BBQ would have to be the food source and who knows if it winds up early, which is highly unlikely once the guitars are out anyway, haha, but maybe a few friends could all head out to a local club for a bit of dancing and fun 🙂 Anyway looking forward to hearing about what you come up with and hopefully it will be a birthday to remember 🙂

i love the moulin rouge idea !!

i had an idea of a beach themed party. i dont know why.
but you could make it more elegant by having candles and maybe a tent outside made out of white material.
and those little colourful lanterns <3

then people could have summery coctails and fresh finger food with lots of lime.

TEA PARTY! Complete with vintage dresses and such! 😀
Well, this is probably something i’d do as i love tea parties, so i think you should base it on something you enjoy.
E.g starwars, flowers, fruits. Make your guests come dress as troops or darth vader, etc. Let them in as Flowers. Or apples, pears and stuff.
Probably just something you would really get a kick out of and remember 🙂
Just make sure it’s memorable if the 40th birthday is special.

This is very weird, but my friend had a umbrella party for her birthday a year ago or so. It was awesome, she bought alot of cheap umbrellas, took the cover off the steel then hang them on the walls, over the lights, just everywhere.
The drinks had the little umbrellas and everyone came dressed with an umbrella theme.
I came in a dress i made. it was very colourful and stuck up like an upside down umbrella. (black tights underneath, wouldn’t want to be a flasher!) Plus umbrella’s in my hair. 🙂
It was a great party, many girls did the same thing as me, though their’s were facing down, Lol.

My 40th was fun, only two people attended (hubby and I) and it lasted a week. We hired a motorhome and worked our way down the coast of Queensland. We had a hoot and my mum and dad looked after the kids.

I know this is not everybodies idea of fun, but hubby and I have only ever had 5 days together (honeymoon 10 years ago) without my stepdaughter. We have never had family around to babysit, and my hubby usually works away. The final deal breaker was my two best friends hate each other, so a party was going to be tricky.

Getting back on track my favourite themed party I went to was “how were you dressed when the ship went down?”. We went as astronauts in space outfits. Alot of people went in their PJ’s or grass skirts as if they were on a sailing ship, some even had dried peas and carrots on their shirts to look like vomit (a big gross but a good conversation starter.)

    Happy organising

    Cheers
    BB

Thanks for the ideas everyone! It’s given me lots of food for thought. I figure if I have to turn 40 (!!!) then I should do it in style 🙂
