Which one first..concealer or mineral powder foundation?

Hi beauties,

I just purchased a mineral powder foundation and have never used it before in conjunction with a concealer, so I was hoping someone could tell me if you apply concealer first then the powder foundation, or do you apply the powder foundation first then the concealer?

With cream or liquid foundation I do either, but I’m a little confused with this powder foundation.

Thanks in advance for the help.

If it’s a cream concealer I’d suggest doing it first. I’ve tried the other option and it really messed up the mineral foundation. If they’re both powder then it doesn’t matter which you apply first. 🙂

Also, if you apply the concealer first then the mineral foundation it cancels out having to set the concealer so less cakable layers. 🙂

Concealer comes last after the mineral powder foundation, but I guess it depends on what concealer you are using. If it is a creamy one then it might work better first. But the general rule of the thumb is it always goes on last so you only apply it where needed, because your foundation is already going to conceal minor flaws, this method definitely saves overdoing it 🙂

As weird as this may sound I use my cream concealer over the top of my EM mineral powder. I find my EM powder melts into my skin anyway. I also find that the concealer blends really well into the mineral powder so there are no issues with using it over the top. I used to use my concealer underneath the mineral powder but find that I buffed some of it off with the application of my powder so now I use it after and am more happy with this method. Also when I apply my EM powder first I know which areas are already covered and which areas need extra cover with the concealer.

But whatever works best for you I think 🙂 Try both ways to see what looks and works best.

If your concealer is liquid, cream, or gel in form, then it goes under your mineral powder foundation.

I use a mineral foundation most days as I like lighter coverage, but my concealers are all liquid… so put concealer on first, blend into your skin, THEN put the powder over the top of it.

However, a word of caution: don’t overdo it on the concealer. Since you’re putting it on before putting any makeup on, it can be tempting to cover every little flaw with it. Remember: your foundation will cover some of that stuff, too! So only put concealer where you usually do (or over spots you know will definitely need it), then count on your foundation to cover the rest.

yaaaay! I’ve been doing the right thing lol 🙂
Good advice Vivixenne – I’ve made the mistake of overdoing it on the concealer in the past & have been left with that quite distrubing washed out look as a result.

I’m no expert when it comes to foundation, but I do use mineral foundation from time to time (special occasions) and always apply and blend my concealer before applying the powder. This is mainly because the concealer I use is a liquid formulation, so wouldn’t work well on top of a powder. So I suppose the type of concealer you’re using would make a difference with the way it should be applied.

I hope I’ve been of some help, I’m sure there are other beauties out there (read: here!) that can either correct me if I’m wrong or back me up.
