Weight Loss and Exercise Tips/ Ideas

Hi, I’m 19 years old and weigh 72kg. I know I’m overweight and I really wanna start losing the weight and start being healthy, but there are a lot of things that kinda hold me back. I know walking is great for burning fat and losing weight, and I love walking but the area I live in isn’t really safe for a young woman to be walking alone. Does anyone know any simple but effective exercises that I would be able to do at home, especially for losing belly, arm and breast fat?

Motivating myself is something I find difficult to do as well. Numerous times I’ve eaten right and exercised, and in the end I always stop and give up. I’d love to hear some great tips for keeping myself focused and motivated.
I really want to start to change my lifestyle, be healthy and start respecting my body rather than destroying it by the bad diet and lifestyle habits I’ve held on to for so long. Any advice would be great. Thanks girls =)

    Hi Miss.

If you are unable to walk because you are afraid for your safety try going to a pool where there are lots of people and instructors to look after you.
Swimming is the best exercise as it works most of the body at the same time,as Blissful has said, if you cannot swim just walk up and down in the pool or better still get some swimming lessons.

If you are carrying a lot weight on your abdomen stomach crunches by the 100’s is the worst thing you can do, it will certainly build the muscle but with the fat sitting on top of the muscle your stomach will just look and measure larger. Lose the fat first then start the muscle building,
eat a balanced diet with lean protein at each meal as protein is very important in the diet as it keeps the muscles healthy, try cutting out sugar, breads, and pasta, eat 5 small meals a day to keep hunger at bay and keep to around 1300 calories per day.
Pills are not the way to go, when you eventually have to go off them the weight will return quicker than it took you to lose it, hope this helps Yvette.

Swimming’s a great choice, Yvette. It will build your arm muscles through the resistance training, while also burning energy and fat via cardio. Plus it’s fun and feels really good! I love how I feel after a swim session. It doesn’t make you all hot and sweaty, like other exercise in summer. : )

Swimming is my fave way to tone up arms. Otherwise, doing small repetitive movements with hand weights is really helpful and not as intense as push ups. I did a bunch of these in Pilates on Sat. Boxing or body combat is also worthwhile. Cheers, Yvette. : )

BTW, Missbernz, it’s also best if you don’t smoke, if you wish to lead a healthier lifestyle. I hope you don’t smoke like your avatar!

Have you ever thought about buying a treadmill? I got hubby to get me one a few years ago because it made it easier for me to exercise at home, believe me it’s great and well worth the money 🙂

I swear if I had a car I’d be bigger LOL
I don’t so I have to walk everywhere / catch public transport where appropriate.
This means lugging any food shopping etc with me – sigh.
I also head outside every lunch break & speed walk around the city…….good for my body – not so good for my bank balance…..lunch time shopping addiction in full swing!
