Weak nails

My nails are weak naturally -i’ve never used fake or acrylic nails. I’ve tried Cutex nail hardener, but it didn’t seem to work. My nails get to a certain length, and then they get tears or splits in them…Help! I want to have nice nails for my year 12 formal, but don’t have much time to look after them as my exams start next week, and my formals the day after my exams finish! Any suggestions?

hey Starry eyed. Have you tried a hair, skin and nails supplement? Ive used them in the past and found them to be quite good and it really made my hair grow. Dont know about the nails though as Im a shocking nail biter. Maybe worth a try. You can get reaonally priced ones from the supermarket. Apparently Aldi sells them real cheap. Ive never tried them though but will.

Hi Captain Dan I must have missed this earlier. I might give it another go, but I am a bit concerned as to why it would say you can only use it twice a year, if you look on their website under the actual product it does actually state this in the instructions of the extra strong product. The normal version is fine to use all the time apparently. But like you mentioned if I mabey just use it once a week rather than for the two week period then it might be ok 🙂

Yep I`ve got sally Henson Diamond Nails, it`s a really good product-sometimes the polish flakes off but it doesn`t bother me coz I just go over the coat and it`s perfect!

Thanks Mel & Captain, if there is no issue with using it more frequently (and I can`t imagine what reason there would be that you need to take a 6 month break!!) I may pick some up this weekend and see how it goes.

Hi Melmeko, I was talking to my friend Sarah (the beautician who got me onto Herome) and she said you can use Herome non stop without any problems! I religiously use mine every week as a base under all my nail polish and she uses it on all her clients every 2 weeks to finish their manicures, and she has had some of these clients for 5 years! If your really worried, she said that you can use the blue version but she has never seen any `damage` done from using Herome for a long time.
She reccomends using the `treatment` process (apply and remove every 2 days) for two weeks, then after that use it once a week or everytime you paint your nails.
Sarah isn`t the best on a computer, otherwise I`m sure she would be on here giving her advice to everyone…. but I am always annoying her with silly questions lol and she said she loves helping out!
I asked her about how often you can use Herome (I use it all the time and was a tad worried..) as soon as I saw this post….
    Hopefully this helps melmeko!!

Hello Meggy, yes I can give you an update, it does appear that Herome has helped heaps, but unfortunately you can only use the treatment for 2 weeks, and that is it, only twice a year, so even though my nails are in much better condition I really need something to keep them going, so I have decided that I need the milder version of Herome, the extra strong, while it does work and will come in handy again in another 6 months, I need something to use non-stop until they get a bit longer. It might actually be a good idea to start off with the regular version because you can then use that treatment for three weeks straight then take a break for a bit, then you can use it again. Hope this helps 🙂

    BUMP!!
Mel, any update on the Herome? I have incredibly weak nails and was looking forward to hearing your thoughts. I`m currently using a Sally Hansen treatment that is working ok but not great, so would love to know if Herome is worth the investment.
    Thanks xx

There is only one long-term fix to a weak nail problem: changing your diet. Weak nails usually means zinc deficiency, so instead of basically just masking the problem in the short term with beauty products, you should eat right. Maybe try eating more foods high in zinc such as seafood, red meat, chicken, tofu, lentils, dried beans, nuts, eggs, dairy etc…

Hope that helps you all 🙂 🙂
