Waxing and Numbing Gel
This summer I started to wax my legs and bikini area myself but have found when I do it myself it hurts way more then at the salon. After some reading on the net I’ve heard a lot of people deal with the pain of waxing by using a numbing gel. I have looked everywhere and cannot seem to find one. I was just wondering if anyone uses it or knows where I could buy it.

There is danger in numbing before waxing as your body cant feel to tell if your being harmed (ie wax too hot or hair being pulled incorrectly causing damage under the skin) A girl died in America from applying over the counter numbing cream to her legs prior to having them waxed..these are chemicals and drugs you are dealing with and they will be absorbed into your whole body not just your skin. I know some beauticians offer numbing cream prior to waxing and im sure they know which ones are safest, and yes the pain is far worse in the long run. Avoid getting a wax in the week before your menstrual cycle it is known to be significantly more painful, also some women find themselves sensitive around ovulation. Avoid waxing after prolonged exposure to sun as your likely to be more sensitive too. I cant face a leg wax let alone a brazilian around my period, but it doesn`t really phase me the week after, and a good wax technician makes ALL the difference, i find older more experienced women better, some less experienced waxers can be a bit slow and hesitant and i know they have to learn but i prefer it not to be at my own pain and expense! LOL. so maybe try getting a wax from some one else, it gets easier the more you have, i could just about fall asleep these days!

I`ve seen a notice at the hospital that says something about a numbing jell you can use on kids before blood tests. I can`t remember what it`s called but might be the cream miakat mentioned above. This one needs time to act too but I`m not sure how long the effects last.

You can get something called Emla cream from the pharmacist. It can be good for certain things, ie. if you are taking kids for innoculations, but its probably a waste of time for waxing/tattoos. Partly cos you have to leave it on for an hour to numb the area, and who has that long to wait before they even start waxing? And secondly, it wears off after about ten minutes. You would get half way through a leg and it would be gone. Plus its about $20 for one application so you might as well get a salon wax.
Also, once it wears off you actually feel pain more!!! Your skin goes into shock once the numbness wears off – your nerves realize they are all injured at once, instead of giving your body time to prouce the natural painkilling endorphins. I had this for a tattoo once – NEVER AGAIN once it wore off the pain was 10 times as bad. Horrid.
