Too young to wear perfume?

Just a question i was curious to know your thoughts. What age do you think is too young to wear perfume. I was shopping today and heard a woman who was buying pefume for a ten year old. Just got me thinking that at ten i wasnt allowed to wear pefume, let alone have someone spend a lot of money on.

cheers

Some perfumes are designed for kids- like recently I visited my local Chemist Warehouse and they sold Hello Kitty and even Minion ones from Despicable Me! Honestly, the perfume should suit the perfumes age and I think that no way you should be giving an adults perfume (Chanel, Elizabeth Arden, Gucci) to a 10 year old!

I remember as a little girl (maybe 6 or 7) I used to love playing with my nonna’s perfume (she used to have dolce and gabbana and I used to sneak it little sprays of it). In my early teens (12-13) my family started buying me fragrances (I remember I had curious and a few other celebrity fragrances). I guess that exposure to fragrances at a young age led to a love as an adult because I have a massive perfume collection and I have since I was a teenager.

My daughter (six) received her first perfume (Barbie) for Christmas (at age five). I wouldn’t buy her anything that contains alcohol at this age, nor anything of any great expense. However at age ten I would imagine she might get influence by celebrity fragrances like those from Taylor Swift etc, and would possibly consider is for special occasions.

I feel like the 8 onwards age should be able to wear perfume even if it is just a little cheap princess one, it makes them feel special!

I still remember my first perfume came in a christmas stocking filled with lots of girly things that my Poppy bought for me when I was around 5 or 6 years old,it was a cylinder shaped bottle with a light pink lid and it was called Skinny Dip.

I have a nearly 12 yr old, and recently took her perfume shopping when we visited the States. We had so much fun choosing age appropriate perfumes (subtle fragrances). I figured she was going in to high school this year, and she needed to know how to apply perfume, how much to apply, and how much perfume actually costs, so she would appreciate it more. And the cheap and nasty stuff was truly terrible that she was spritzing all throughout her room (present from someone) – I had to put an end to that 😉

She loves the couple of fragrances she picked out, and doesn’t go over the top with them.

My parents would tell me to buy my own perfume if I wanted it, even if I was 6; that’s how I was brought up.
But the mere fact that a perfume is targeted at a young audience does not make it appropriate. Before you hit puberty, and before you yourself have a concern for self-image, a child will not consciously decide they need or want perfume. Parents are giving it to them… it’s unnecessary.
The mere fact that there’s a specific market of perfume for children is disturbing; that companies should prey on children to obsess them from an early age. It’s marketing, that’s all it is.
