To Perm Or Not To Perm???

I would like some advice from my beauty pals – I’m wondering if I should perm my hair.
I have naturally wavy hair – more curly underneath, but quite straight on top and it is very prone to frizz. It’s the straight bits that really annoy me. I was thinking about getting a light perm. Now before any of you freak out and start thinking of the 80’s afros, that won’t be the look I’ll be going for! My friend had hers done and it looks fabulous – big waves (think just curled with GHD’s) But I’m not sure how many hairdressers are up to date on the technology so to speak. Can anybody give me some advice on hairdressers in Melbourne/Outer East/Peninsula area’s and just generally your thoughts. Thank you muchly!

Yeah thats what I want – just something to kick some life into the straight bits – nothing like a poodle perm! Big waves is what I want. But I know they are quite damaging – I don`t know how much they have changed over the years. Ohh – I`m sure we have a hairdresser amongst us – maybe she can give me an update???

i had my hair permed back in the 80`s too. the hairdresser gave me the tightest curls and as my hair is fine but alot of it i came out with massive volume. i looked like Tiny Tim, you know, tip toe thru the tulips. so tragic until it loosened.
i say go for it GG, but maybe more of a body wave instead of actual full on perm, i think that`d look nice on you.

I`ve often thought about this myself – but decided not too,
I had my first perm back in the 80`s – the first was a spiral perm, being virgin hair it turned out absoulutely gorgeous,
every other after that was a nightmare, so I never went back – but I`m sure these days hairdressers would be up to date on perming solutions.
I`m sure it would turn out fine…
Maybe I`ve become sensitive in my old age – but I can`t tolerate the smell, it gives me headaches.
(when I was training to be a B.T- we`d have to walk past the hairdressers training rooms and it just “”perm-me-ated”” out through the corridors)
