Tips for Applying Pencil Eyeliner

I’m wondering if everyone can give me some hints/tips or point me to videos on applying pencil eyeliner to both the upper and lower lashes. I can somehow do it with liquid but I find with the pencil I always have this huge line on my upper lashes, and going right into the corner of my eye looks so dramatic for simply going to work. I’m interested in just finding an easy way of applying pencil eyeliner for everyday use.

I usually just dot a line across my upper lash line and use an angled brush to smooth it out. I think this is the best way. On the lower lash line, don’t tug and pull on your eye, not only will it cause premature wrinkles but it will also distress the skin. Pull it down slightly and apply it.

Maybe try using a brown or a gray pencil instead, it’s not as harsh and is more suitable for everyday use. Lining just the outer halves of both of your upper and lower lash line will make your eyes look bigger and will not make look as harsh.

Heres a tip I heard from a makeup artist, put the eye pencil in the freezer for a few minutes first, makes it much easier to work with.

Hi Mel, yeah it’s the fluidline one. I’ve left a review of it, I also had a look on ebay and there’s a silver one that comes with the angled brush as well. So hard to tell if it’s fake coming off ebay though! But it really is amazing, the line you get is just so precise!

Is that the Fluidline one you have Pinkapple ??

I’m the same Pinkapple, I adore a gel eyeliner applied with an angled brush, you can do a nice heavy line or go for a more subtle natural look with the colour pushed right into the base of the lashes. So easy to do and looks great.

I haven’t yet given up on the pencil thing but I just got the MAC gel eyeliner and use it with an angled eyeliner brush and I have to say it’s simply amazing! The best ever eyeliner I’ve used. After a full day it hasn’t smudged at all, goodbye panda eyes!!! I don’t know why but I find this so much easier to apply! Thanks for all the tips girls, will be sure to pull out the pencil again and give it a go.

for all the girls talking about pulling the skin taut, here’s another good trick that doesn’t “pull” at your eye at all. you know where your crease is? I lean back so that my chin is closer to the mirror, put my finger in the hand I’m not using to draw the pencil with, and just slide it into the crease gently. It doesn’t pull at the skin but keeps it taut enough to draw with.

Or instead of lines, draw dotting lightly it across your lashline and then just keeping on going over it with dotted. Usually my eyeline then smudges itself in about 5 minutes before ‘settling’.

Kajal is great too, I use kajal (the rimmel one is excellent). Only problem is, it IS smudgier than normal pencil.

I bought a little eyeliner shaper thing off ebay a while ago and have found that it works well when you’re trying to get the hang of applying your eyeliner pencil
    “something like this one”:http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HOT-PROFESSIONAL-EYELINER-SHAPER-brace-Tool-brand-New_W0QQitemZ190362271260QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2c5279be1c
It works well for under the eyes but is still a little tricky trying to use for the upper lids

Slightly pull the edge of the eye so the skin isn’t sagging. Use small strokes and stop just before you reach the outer edge of the eye. Use a cotton tip to slightly blend out the line towards the outer edge so you achieve a softer look. Use a clean cotton tip and dip in some makeup remover and then gently wipe over areas that are too thick or uneven, to achieve a thinner and more natural look.
