the low down on zits??

Hey, Kimbee here
(hope there’s not already a thread on this)
Just gotta get a couple of things straight.
Don’t you ever wonder what cause those flare ups in your face and if it will ever clear up? Well, that would be something to rejoice about; clear skin. Just wanted to know what some contributing factors that cause pimples in terms of diet, health etc.. I know as a stage in adolescence, puberty that you get the monthly break outs, late nights, not properly caring and cleansing your skin and what not. But there’s always that ‘ooh if you eat too much chocolate, oily foods, wine and honey (so I’ve heard)?” that usual annoying conversation with mum and gran. “the heat flare up in your blood and there you meet Mr. Pimple this and that and so on.”

It’s always been skeptical to me cos like in some of my reads, sugary, oily foods doesn’t cause pimples and it’s just a big beauty myth and that you do get pimples if you don’t eat enough of veggies, fruits, fish etc. I’ve even heard that fatty milk can cause zits as well. It’s all very confusing to me and I want to get the cold case real facts on pimples and if I should anything in my diet to clear up my skin.

What about a pimple on your eyelid? Anyone?! I had one that I`ve scratched off accidently..I don`t have an issue with acne generally but why on earth would one plant itself on my eyelid?! grrrr!

Hey Elmo, you mentioned vitamins for healthy skin? What sort of supplements would you recommend (for teen/young adults)?

EDIT: I just redirected myself to the acne topic, and i found heaps of wonderful information there from your old posts, as well as many others! Please disregard this, but thank you for the wonderful advice posted in the other thread 🙂 I`m writing ideas to follow up and possibly buy now!

this has been very helpful.. as every teen gets pimples. as understand the chocolate gives you pimples is a myth. But it certainaly cant be to good for skin. i suggest that you dont go on a strict diet, maybe you could just aim to put healthy foods into your diet and cut back on the junk. Stick to a strict skincare regime – i recommend Benzac AC.

HI, if your and adult there can be lots of reasons your breaking out, stress, hormones and lack of female hormones, over cleansing and the products you are using or not using.

female hormonal mediated acne is a big one if you are over 20 and the only thing that really helps that is going onto a special contraceptive pill which i had to use at one point to help my acne, it has anti androgens which helps if you have to many male hormones floating around.

make sure your not stripping your skin and using harsh chemicals also take a zinc supplement and exercise helps by flushing toxins out and drink plenty of water( thats really important) and everyone is different so talk to a skin therapist if you have major problems

Kimbee how old are you? If you`re still a teen – you shouldn`t be restricting your diet too much – you`re still growing and you need all different foods/minterals etc for your body.

As long as you`re not stuffing your face full of junk food all day every day, you should be fine. Even though dairy can be problematic for some people, it`s something that I would be hesistant to recommend you cut down on, as you need it to grow strong and healthy bones.

If you have severe acne, and it`s hormonal, then a doctor would be your best place (or natural medicine practicitioner – depending on what yoou prefer) as hormonal acne can be treated, and your diet will have no effect on it whatsoever.

If you just break out, then taking healthy skin vitamins daily, plus a good skincare routine, will help sort out that situaiton. 🙂
