taxi seating

hey girls, i was just wondering if we are suppose to sit at the back or in the passenger seat if we are alone and the taxi driver is a male driver. i always seat at the passenger seat cause im so used to it. but people have been telling me that its wrong. so im just a little confused as to what is the most appropriate. really appreciate it if you girls could help. thanks!!

I always sit in the back seat – it`s still easy to have a conversation with the driver, but it does make me feel a lot safer.
They can be really interesting, I love talking with them! I had a really good discussion about video games with one a few months ago :]

gemini69, you do have a point there. omg. i never thought of that.
flutter, i never knew about the lock thing. thanks for sharing. knowing something like that can be useful someday.
well i dont usually catch taxis often. only when i need a ride to the airport or when i have loads of lugguage to drag around. and its just a habit to hop in the front seat if its empty even though there have been people telling me its much safer to sit at the back. but i dont realise it until im halfway to where i wanna go.

I sit in the front seat as it`s a much smoother ride on my stomach. I registered as a vip so they know my name and where I live. I mainly get regulars and always catch up with what they are doing lately. One cab driver was sick once and I said when I get home I have some cough medicine if you need and he was much happy about that. I always tip them just a little. Also the rules with cab drivers now because of something that happened which I can`t remember now and a taxi driver told me that the rule is they can`t talk to the passenger unless the passenger talks first. But sometimes I get a taxi driver who isn`t much of talker, grunts a lot though. Basically you can sit wherever you feel comfortable. Also I like the front seat as it`s more friendlier for me. Also most taxi drivers have the cabs with a lock that can be controlled by them, same as the windows, I think to prevent people from escaping on their fees. So even if the back seats have door handles with locks they can lock them up when they want. I know as one day after coming home from the hospital I couldn`t get out of the cab as the taxi driver forgot he had the lock on.
Basically hon sit wherever it makes you feel comfortable.

I always sit in the back – usually behind the passenger seat so I can have a convo with the cabbie easily if I want. It`s just habit for me I guess. Oh and after seeing The Bone Collector I always check that the inside car handle is there! haha Oh and also always check the cabbie`s id is displayed and the meter is on.

Lovely thoughts gem! I always sit in the back seat I`ve had some good taxi drivers, but one i had a deaf one whom i had to give directions too and i`d say “”turn left”” so of course he turned right…
I also had one who taliied up the total and then muttered “” and i doubt there will be a tip…”” then said to me “”so that comes too $…””
i thought that was rude! he could have atleast asked…there was definately no tip after him saying that hahha

Mmmm…I don`t catch taxi`s…you never know what happens on the back seat?…(i`ll leave that one to the imagination…and those people who go out on the night on the alcohol..mmmm)…poor drivers what they have to put up with…eww…actually probably better to sit in the front seat..lol

i do try to make conversations with them. i feel awkard to sit there for half an hour not in silence. and some of them are really nice and they start talking bout their family and life, its really interesting. but there are those that arent even willing to say more then 2 words. and that can be kinda annoying.
