tanning: thoughts
hi this is my first post here, im hana 😀
i am writing this becuase i am naturally light light light skinned and i notice how even coming in to winter so many people want tans real or not. it is like it is a constant standard of beauty and espcically in summer poeple talk like its almost wrong to show your legs without a tan. so im putting this here to get a few ideas on tans real ones and can or fake ones and your experiences? sort of what do you feel about it being a ‘must’?
thank you <3

I have to side with the majoity on this –
what you have is nice and try to be comfy with it.
and that tanning isnt realy needed.im a darker asian skin tone – and like the mediterranean genes, im progreammed to get atan REaly fast and easy. on top of being darker. but i dont try to.
and the amusing thing – as pointed out of the global view, is that most of other palce want to be fair, in asia its a huge thing to have skin bleaching products… soooo not good.fake tans are not realy going to chang the things that are impt about you -and talk about skin deep!
the healthy look that ppl like is more about inviting colorful lips, and things like that , more than a tan skin to say ur healthy or attractive.
thats my views.

No matter how much I slather on sunscreen, wear a hat, or sit in the shade. I tan. Thanks to my Mediterranean genes. Sometimes I like looking tanned but you do know a tan is burnt skin cells? That is a really scary thought.
I don’t mind getting a fake tan too as I have a friend who runs her own tanning business so I am lucky to get one from her when I want.
But I do think fair skin looks stunning, I sometimes wonder why I go and get a fake tan.
I think this beauty dilemma “to tan or not to tan” will always be debated, i just think its stupid when people use tanning oils to tan when people are dying from sun cancer, especially in Australia.

I have fair skin but can work up to a fabulous dark tan which I did when I was a teenager and in my early 20s. Those days are gone now because I don’t want to risk getting skin cancer. A man I once knew who saw me with the great tan said that it looked great and the following year when he saw me without the tan, said that fair skin is very feminine. So, I concluded that if I really want a tan it would have to be fake.
I have tried using tanners on myself and am not successful even with the top of the line professional type tanners. So, if I ever want to have a fake tan for a special occasion I would probably go to a salon for a spray tan. Although I am not a great fan of my fair legs in summer, I accept that is my skin colour. I might give gradual tanners another go next summer. I wear sunscreen every day and do not want to risk burning as I have noticed my skin is more susceptible to burning as I have gotten older and stayed out of the sun.

After years of neglect and trying to bake myself in the sun when I was younger I now have sun damaged skin 🙁 I avoid the sun now at all costs and never head outside without an SPF30+ sunscreen on. I am all for fake tans, but only use them occasionally. Usually more in the warmer months when I would be more likely wearing shorts rather than long pants. I like to use an instant tan, that I know is effective and develops to a nice natural looking tan, but they do only last a few days, and so to prolong my tan I use a gradual tanner as a body lotion everyday and I find my tan keeps looking good for around a week. I then take it off and so to shave etc, then start again. An instant tan, that doesn’t leave you looking like a carrot, is the easiest way to get a quick tan, however you can also use a gradual tanner in place of the instant tan, which will provide you with an even more natural looking tan as it gradually develops slightly day by day, and after a few days you might end up achieving a fairly noticeable tan. I have just been sticking with the one brand for the last couple of years, Xen Tan, because I love the natural colour and instead of smelling horrid like some instant tans do, mine smells like chocolate 😉 I have recently been given some Naked Tan products, which smell like a tropical island, so so good, but I have not tried them, although have read its a pretty good professional type range. Anyway that is my two cents worth 😉

lol, I think that came across a little too neg fake tan lmao 😀
To correct this,
What I mean is as Michael Jackson stated “It don’t matter if your Black or White” Seriously 😀
If your cream, orange, blue, gold, tanned, white, pale, or a prune, love the skin your in honey because there isn’t anything sexier than a women who is comfortable with who she is!!!
Healthy happy skin is the sexiest, just go with your natural beauty and enhance your natural features and you will have everyone wondering where this gorgeous girl gets her look from!
Love your skin no matter the colour, some people fake tan, other bleach their skin!!! … We should ALL just LOVE our own skin 🙂

Ooooooooooh your too cute!!!
I will have to say right here and now that fake tan is only a standard of beauty in Aus, and UK.
USA in california is also as we all now the “in” thing, however with beautiful stars such as Katy Perry, Rose McGowen, The Corrs, Shannen Doherty, Heather Graham, Dita Von Teese etc etc etc!
Even the US loves the lilly pilly skin against beautiful long tresses. To cut a long story short. Pale is actually the HOT thing for 80% of the world in countries aside from Aus & UK. 🙂
It’s actually the beauty standard for most of the world.
So if you don’t like going Orange, simply, DONT! 😀
Be unique and that is where you will find your natural beauty shine.
Besides, beauty is in looking unique, if we all looked the same it would be snoozeville!

I have fair skin that does not tan naturally. i feel as if i look too washed out if i dont have fake tan on. i use the palmers cocoa butter gradual tanner daily. it doesnt go orange, and builds a nice natural colour without looking like youve been sprayed with dorito seasoning

Im pretty fair too, I don’t really like to tan. On occasion I will but I will only use a fake tan or a gradual tanner. I wear SPF daily and I really think that ‘real’ tanning is the worst thing you can do for your health and like mentioned before its a leading factor in pre-mature aging. Which no one wants!

Welcome to bh! Personally I don’t think tanning is that big of a deal. I’ve always been fair skinned and find it very hard to tan. If I tan in the summer, I lose my tan in the winter without fail every year. As for fake tan, I think the worst thing is when you look orange, it looks terrible! Once I had some fake tan for a friend’s wedding. It looked ok before I left the house, in the wedding photos in the sun I looked orange! So now I just settle with my natural colour.
I think fair skin can look really pretty especially if you match it with colours that suit you in terms of clothes and makeup. If I wear the right colours my skin has a dewy glowing appearance, but I know that sometimes it can look pasty if I wear the wrong colours.
So I guess I think everyone should embrace their own natural colour and show it off with the right clothes and make up
