Skin Care routine – what order?

Hi all, I am pretty ‘obsessed’ with keeping a skincare routine.

I currently use the Jurlique range where I use the Cleanser, toner, serum and moisturiser (and swap a night moisturiser with the day moisturiser at night). Exfoloiate 2-3 times a week and use a mask once a week. Jurlique have released a sunscreen and I was wondering where in my routine do I use this and if I cancel any of the othesr out if I use the sunscreen?

What is your routine and anyone who has a similar routine to me if they can help me onto where the sunscreen fits in 🙂

Keens86, what an excellent skin care routine. It’s great that you have such dedication and you keep up with it.
One of the hardest parts of the skin care routine is commitment, the second part is finding the products that best work for you.

    My morning routine
    1. Splash face with warm water
    2. Apply cream based cleanser to face in circular motion
    3. Splash face
    4. Remove cleanser with face washer
    5. Splash face
    6. Apply toner
    7. Apply day moisturiser
    8. Apply sunscreen

    My night time routine
    1. Face wipe
    2. Eye make-up remover
    3. Wet face with warm water
    4. Cleanser (in circular motions)
    5. Wet face
    6. (Sunday, Tuesday & Wednesday) – Exfoliate
    7. Use face washer to remove all product
    8. Splash face
    9. Apply eye cream
    10. Apply night time moisturiser

    Day time I use

    1. Biotherm Biosensitive gel cleanser (or Dermalogica cleansing beads )
    2. Dior Hydrating serum
      3 Khiels avacado eye cream
    3. Olay spf30+ sun block
    4. Shiseido spf 38 sun milk ontop of that if its really sunny ( im paranoid about spots)
    5. Shiseido eye cream spf 28++

    Night time

    1. Shiseido whitening cleaning cream
    2. Nude Active cellular serum
    3. Khiels avacado eye cream
    4. B12 (Vitamin B12) cream
    5. QV night cream

I Like to layer my skin care on especially during the day because I have dry skin and sometimes creams with SPF are not as moisturizing as normal creams 🙂

    Morning:
    1. Neutrogena stress control cream cleanser
    2. Neostrata oily skin solution toner
    3. Cetaphil moisturising lotion

    Night:
    1. Neutrogena stress control cream cleanser
    2. Benzac 5% cream

I don’t use a scrub because i have some acne and i’m scared it is going to aggravate it and make me break out, but i should try one.
I don’t use a mask as well because i just got most of my acne cleared after having it for 6 years and i don’t want a face mask to wreck all my hard work.
    🙂

sunscreen should go in replacement of you morning moisturiser.

I would agree that sometimes it’s not necessary to use moisteriser if you’re wearing sunscreen. Depending on the moisteriser you use, if you apply sunscreen on top, it might rub off and ruin any foundation you apply after wards. That’s what happened to me when I started using Olay’s Complete Defence sunscreen over my Lancome Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate & Day Cream.

I don’t think if you have dry skin you could use sunscreen instead of moisturiser, but as others suggested if you want to use both place the spf on top. I still prefer an spf moisturiser, my skin is oily enough as it is and it can be pretty daunting finding a spf moisturiser that isn’t too rich. I also had the problem for years of my sunscreen making me greasy, now I only use zinc based sun protection and love it, keeps my skin matte and I never ever burn. Zinc has so many benefits I wouldn’t look at anything else these days. I wanted something other than my tinted Invisible Zinc to use under makeup and the best finds are in the childrens natural sun protection products. Clear Zinke is amazing 🙂

Like what everyone else has said, sunscreen goes on last. I normally skip my moisturiser, as I’ve got oily skin and apply my sunscreen on top of my lightening solution.

Sunscreen goes last like the others have said. Glad to hear you’re using skin care I’m always shocked at how many people put nothing at all on their skin. You will be rewarded for your vigilance later in life….well done!!

I usually just have my SPF in my mineral powder foundation. That way my skin doesn’t smell like sun cream and it doesn’t go oily or shiny either.

I have trouble using moisturiser then with SPF over the top as my skin is slightly oily it is far too much for me.

    Definitely sunscreen last 🙂
