My nails always have really bad ridges in them, does any one know the best way to get rid of them?

Buffing helps but not too often, too much buffing could make them worse.
exactly.
glad u know it Mel 🙂thats why i suggestd it more of a an approach from the inside out.. with looking after ur body 1st. tho some marks n ridges are there for life , from just the way we developed, or things we did to our nails.
btw Mel, u talk about ur naisl being thin or flimsy usually – has nothing ever made them get thicker or harder (but not brittle?)
id be happy to try helping u more personally for a solutin, but honestly the things i lisetd in the bigger complte nail care thread, should make an impact – specifically making sure u get more biotin, and silica. doses of those 3-5x a week (at least 3) for 1 month would make a noticable diff
xI have not got biotin or silica so I really want to get both of those to try once I get my tax refund this month, at the moment I am only taking a multi-vitamin and iron tablet daily. I mentioned in the other thread my nails are getting heaps better in terms of not peeling but they are still not overly strong. Do you recommend any particular silica or know of any brands that don`t cost the earth that might still be effective.? Any tips would be great 🙂
i cant suggest high enough the brand by HUBNER – Silicea, they have both pill and liquid form, to me there is no faster working silica supplement.
usually if u look at `hair/skin/nails` pills they will have all the things i mentioned or close to it, but the doses are diff. i do take at times, and like the blackmores version of this pill.
but i still feel taking a stand alone silica (*as above) and also for biotin, is better. extra zinc i dont do, if im regularly taking my swisse women ultiviteThanks heaps darl, I will look into it 🙂

Bump! Aside from the nail files – does anyone have any recommendations to help with ridges in nails? Happy to try just about anything 🙂
HI 🙂
the truth is – nail ridge are a combo of things-
1) genetics
2) damage from physical injury/bumps etc
3) diet
4) healthsoooooooooo… to help them , know that some types or complete `fixing` isnt always 100% a certain thing.
and – to help them will be a combo usually of topical care, and diet care.simply buffing the crap of nails may feel like u mae it smoother but u also thin the nail out. that isnt a help longer term esp if its ongoing.
as mntioned above by misfortune., the nails, just like studying the eyes, the feet etc.. for whole body symptons or deficiencies.. will tell about ur health. like lack of certain vitamins and minerals (certain marks show low iron/zinc/calcium u get the idea).
ridges are a part of that. so often the diet can use a boost in 2 or more of these 5 things –
1) zinc
2) biotin (vit B7)
3) calcium
4) silica / (or, even gelatin)
5) ironIts better to fic the body from the inside out, with diet and also pill supplelemnts for this – ive also writen a stack on this in the COMPLETE NAIL CARE thread.
Other than that, yes- some filing or buffing helps, (mostly for the longitudinal ridges) and u should def be using more nails and hand cream, ro give strength, and also cuticle oils, to promot growth and stimulate the nail bed to grow stronger and thicker. that works agaisnt the ridges weakening nails.
And yes, some polishes, for base coats or hardeners (watch out for harsh aldehyde chemicals tho) do have thick applicataion, and can help `fill` ridge pits.this is a more complete look at what will cause or help them

If nail ridges are transverse (across-wise) & occurring mostly on the thumbs, this is a symptom of thyroid disease, you could get a blood test from your doctor. It`s not dangerous, just a pain in the ——.

One of my nails is super ridgey although the rest are pretty smooth, so strange! I wonder if it`s hereditary? I`m going to scrutinise my mum`s hands later, hehe
Thanks for the tip Elmo, I`ll check out those manicare cubes you mentioned. I think I`ve seen something similar before, the lady at the pharmacy recommended it to one of my friends.
