Questions About Gel Eyeliner

Hi everyone! I’m really thinking about getting some gel eyeliner for the first time… previously I’ve used liquid and pencil eyeliner but want something less dramatic than liquid and more precise than pencil and from browsing this site it looks like gel eyeliner is a good in-between.

I have a couple of brands in mind (Mirenesse from the 2010 Glosscars is top of my list)… but I’m a bit intimidated by the actual application of gel eyeliner. Someone in another thread mentioned using a bent angle brush as it can help steady your hand… does anyone have a good and affordable one to recommend?

And I guess while I’m at it… are there any other price-constrained gel eyeliners you would recommend (aside from the Bobbi Brown and MAC Fluidline as I’ve seen those mentioned already)?

For the record I do have very small eyes (I am Chinese) and some brushes I’ve already seen might throw on an awfully thick line, which is fine but I want a thinner line for daywear purposes.

Thanks in advance!

I cannot recommend essence gel eyeliners enough! They don’t smudge even without a primer, are incredibly creamy (I’ve had mine for 9 months, and it’s still creamy!) and the black version is a true matte black. These cheap (but top-quality) $5.95 beauties are readily available at Target. In my opinion, they trump the Maybelline gel eyeliner in terms of quality, and price.
For brushes, I think the essence gel eyeliner brush is very good for drawing delicate fine lines (and it doesn’t pick up excess product from the overtly creamy essence gel eyeliners), and also recommend the cheap but effective ecotools gel eyeliner brush.

I use the Mirenesse gel pot liners and also the smashbox Jet set ones, I use a Manicare concealer brush that I got from Priceline, its really good for lining, I line with the gel from UNDER the lash line, sound weird but you just work the gel into the base of the lashes fron underneath rather than on the top, it really looks natural and like you have a really lush and thick lashline!

CFD also had the physician’s formula eyeliners for $10 a set, they may have them on their website or I can pick a set up from my local store for you if they still have them. They’re very good.

I really like the Physician’s Formula Gel Eyeliner and though it may seem expensive, you are getting 3 eyeliners instead of 1. It also comes with a brush which is fabulous when used together with the Physician’s Formula Gel Eyeliners.

If you are keen to check it out, I’d recommend getting it from iHerb where it retails for USD $10.51. You also get free shipping with any purchase over $40.

If you use my code WAZ662, you get an additional $10 off your first purchase which must be at least $40. Otherwise, you can still get $5 off if your purchase is less than $40.

    Hope that helps!

EDIT: I do get referral benefits if you use my code but feel free to use other codes if you prefer. There are plenty floating around in BH. 🙂

Any tips for how to set gel eyeliner? It looks great until it smudges 🙁

A black eyeshadow dusted over it should work; I’ve seen a lot of girls on YouTube use this method.

I have Australis gel liner and also the stila smudge pots. I really like the stila ones – sooo easy to apply

I have the australis gel liner and i really like it alot. I found that using a pencil liner first to draw the line then putting gel liner ontop is the easiest way to get a neat precice line.

I just got a Youngblood Incredible Wear Gel Liner… I have it in a brown colour coz I wanted it more for day time wear and I have fair skin and blonde hair so I think it works better with my look. I am loving it so far and I got their angled brush as well, its a must to have a good brush and it helps so much in the application.
It is a little more expensive at $32 but it will last for ages and it really is so smooth to apply.

I have the Mirenesse Gel Liner and it is really good and stays put and easy to apply but I’m definately gonna want to buy one of those angled liner brushes ( the ones with the bent tips), they look like they’d make the whole job amazingly simple.
