Pro-active?

Just interested to see if anyone has used/uses it? A g/f of mine was using it and found it effective, but started noticing a faded bleached area on her pillow case! Anyone heard of anything similar with this? Kind of puts me off wanting to give it a go!

This is the thread you are after Twilight Lover.

  • Hi there! Well Proactive contains Benzyol Peroxide, which is really harsh on sensitive skin but effective at getting rid of nasty pimples.
I say that you should use the cleanser in moderation, as if you use it too much it might make your skin flakey and dry. But yeah! Give it a go!

Also thought that I`d better point out that if you`re going to use Proactiv it is extremely important to use a moisturiser after the three step process (cleanse, tone, repairing lotion) – I use a moisturiser made by Proactiv, it`s the oil free one but they also make a green tea one which is just as nice ($24.95 on top of what the kit costs). Good luck 🙂

I have been using Proactiv for the last 5 months and my skin is completely different to how it used to be. I no longer have bad and inflamed acne, now it`s just the odd spot or two. My skin is softer and has a much healthier look to it. It took around 6 weeks before I noticed a huge difference but since then my skin has only gotten better and is continuing to improve 🙂 I have tried everything else and this is the ONLY product that has worked and still works for me. I would recommend this if you`re at your wits end with acne/pimple problems as for me it`s been a god-send!

I used proactive after only ever using clearasil products. Did seem to get rid of a lot of my redness/rosacea however I think my skin slowly became used to the levels of Benzyl peroxide and eventually I started getting pimples again just as before, before I`d even finished what was in the first kit, so I was somewhat disapointed.

I personally haven`t used it but from what I`ve heard it`s very harsh on your skin and if you ever do stop using it then your skin becomes 10 times worse than before.. just be careful!

I`ve never tried proactiv and i have read a lot about it, it really does depend on your own skin and what is right for it. My sister used to have a lot of acne when she was a teenager and proactiv worked well for her but i`ve never tried it myself as i don`t get as much acne as my sister used to.

I used it a while ago and it did help to clear the pimples. However, it was very drying, the skin was flaking, and the texture of the skin got strange. There were no pimples with yellow heads, but the skin got very uneven, as if the pimples were still undeneath but not fully developed. It did bleach the pillowcases, as well as the hair on the face ( i mean the eyebrows, because no matter how careful i was, i still would manage to get a bit of it there, as i had some pimples on the forehead and between the eyebrows). I stopped using it after a year i think, and i am happy about it. I still have some breakouts from time to time – going through a very unhappy stage right now, which is more due to hormonal changes of post pregnancy/breastfeeding, but would not go back to Proactive. Especially, if you are getting older, it does much more harm than good to the skin.

A lot of people seem to experience dryness or reactions to it, which guess is normal coz of all te chemicals in it. i have stopped using it now, but will probably order it again later on..

hmm i use proactiv and i find it pretty effective.. but when i first started using it, a little over a year ago, my skin was a bit dry .. but it`s fine now. i guess it depends on the skin type..
