Hi everyone!! I’m looking for a good primer that won’t break the bank. Any suggestions?

I recently tried Smashbox’s oil free primer, and Napoleon Perdis’s primer has nothing on it. It’s the best one I have ever tried, makes my makeup last long, but it’s annoying how exy it is.
I’m also a fan of the Smashbox primer. Although I’m loving all these suggestions as I was going to look for a cheaper option next time.

I had a tube of the FOA I’d somehow ended up weaning out of my routine, but I used it today and my skin looked smooth and glowy all day and didn’t seem to get as oily. That could have been the nice weather though.
I remember trying a sample of the Arbonne primer once and it was one of the most gorgeous things I’ve ever tried. The back of my hand felt like plastic (in a good way) it made it that soft and smooth. I’m going to get some and give it a go as a splurge.
So I put the FOA to the test on a humid day at work and it really did make a difference. Don’t know why I stopped wearing it. How could such an inexpensive product and simple ingredients make such a difference? Seriously if anyone can explain it to me I’m really curious! I’ve always been slack with primers.
Hey Gemo,
I did a blog article explain how makeup primers work – hopefully it answers your question…

Hi blackmagic,
I use the NYX HD studio photogenic primer. I have had it for about a month now and I do love it.It isn’t as inexpensive as FOA but it costs about $24.I can’t believe that I react so badly to the smashbox because it is soooo beautifully soft and my skin does feel like velvet when I use it but it honestly isn’t worth the bad blemishes afterward.I find the best ones make me break out. The more smooth and velvety the worse for me lol… It’s weird. Maybe there is a key ingredient that doesn’t agree with my skin
Could be a high silicon content maybe? I think that’s the stuff that fills in the pores and lines… but I really have no idea about primers lol.
I tried a sample of the Covergirl & Olay serum and primer today and it felt lovely and smooth, but they were all out so I’m guessing it’s either really good and popular or hopeless so that haven’t bothered restocking it. I’m pretty sure it was sold out the last 5 times I visited that Covergirl section. Anyone tried it?
I saw it at coles for 12 something bucks. Its on special at the moment.

Spending ban yes… I’m doing more of a “this pay packet I’ll buy this and this. And the next I’ll buy these”. Seems to be working. If you can do a spending ban with all these temptations I shall clap for you.
MooGoo addiction has ruined what could have been a spending ban for me… but hey it’s MooGoo! I wish MooGoo made a primer…

I was busting to try the Smashbox one after all the positive reviews it had online, but no good, it was not very good at all for my oily skin 🙁 I really like the silicone ones, but most are too greasy for me, the Philosophy one I love is silicone based and leaves my skin silky smooth, but minus the oil slick. I guess it just comes down to trial and error and I need to keep trying them to find the ones that work best. I was checking out an NYX one but it didn’t have very good feedback online but the ELF one sounded really promising for really cheap too, will try it sooner or later, when I get over this spending ban, haha, to see if it works for me. Damn having oily skin sometimes its really hard to find products that work the best, lol.
