Neck problem

Hi Beauties

I wasn’t sure where to post this as it could come under Health and Wellbeing, Skincare or this forum. So chose beauty dilemma.

I have been suffering from severe anxiety for a while and just recently I noticed that when I get very anxious the skin on my neck (and only my neck) starts to get a little itchy and red. It also feels very sensitive. It lasts for about ten minutes max and then disappears. I have not used any new creams, moisturisers or anything else to cause this and, if so, I would have expected it to appear on other parts of my face and decolletage.

Do you think I should just accept it and forget about it or use something calming on the neck area. I definitely relate it to anxiety. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. x

Anxiety can do the weirdest things to our bodies. Things we don’t even think would be related. I hope you can de-stress somewhat Roxy as it definately isn’t fun feeling anxious. Then when things like what you’ve described happen, you feel even more stressed. Maybe you should try meditation.

Could be hormonal, go have a blood test, ask for Liver function test, and thyroid function test, also ask to have some copper and tracing element tests done, Vitamin D and B12 tests would be good also.

Thanks Kiwijo for your thoughts and welcome to BH! I have recently had tests done and I am deficient in Vitamin D (like most Australians) so have started taking supplements. My hormones are OK as just had check up with my gynaecologist. I really think it occurs when I am feeling anxious and it goes away after 10 minutes or so. Just irritating when it happens. x

Well it is reassuring to know this is a reasonably common problem although I wish none of us has to deal with the anxiety nor the side effects. Thanks again beauties. x

I get this all the time as well, no beauty products that I have ever tried do anything at all for it unfortunately, I agree with the whole trying to relax and destress thing, sometimes having a relaxing cool shower and a bit of pampering helps, then try and put your feet up for a while and get lost in a good book 🙂

Definately requires instant destressing….try (at those moments) finding something funny or beautiful in the situation/close at hand and focus on that for a few seconds to diffuse your feelings of anxiety. I know it sounds so simple, almost too simple to work, but it can be a real help

    Good luck

I get like it too when I get too stressed about something. My husband says to me, you are getting all blotchy on the neck again. You better calm down. I have done it for years, and I really don’t think we can do anything about it, except try to calm down anmd de-stress.

Thanks girls for all your thoughts and support. Anxiety is horrible and I have enough physiological effects from it without the neck issue. I am dealing with the actual anxiety but it is a long slow process (have had anxiety many times before in my life). As the neck issue is not ongoing I will just leave it for now and ensure I don’t use any new products on that area.

Jatz, I cannot believe the doctor said to you that it is menopause. It is so easy to put everything down to this when it is often not the case. I just went to see my gynaecologist and I am definitely not menopausal or pre-menopausal so I think your doctor is barking up the wrong tree. I do think any emotional stress, not even high anxiety like I have, can cause skin irritation.

    Hi Roxy,
I have been getting that for a while and had no idea why. Half the time I don’t know it’s happening, although I am slightly itchy and then hubby points out and says “your neck is red”.
I saw my dr about it and she just said Menopause, gee does MENopause ever end???? So now I just say and think of it to do with menopause stuff.
