My Skin hates Winter!!

My skin tends to be on the dry side, so when I load on the moisturisers in summer, it’s just right and can look great. But when winter comes around, especially with heaters and cold wind, there’s seems to be nothing I can do to save my forever dry skin. I can apply moisturises almost constantly, but it doesn’t have that same smooth feel. To make matters worse, my skin is sensitive so dryness makes my sensitive skin even worse. Also my skin doesn’t particularly like oil based products, Does anyone have a similar problem? Help?

I have the same problem with my skin and it is exacerbated by the winter air. Last year I tired out clinique’s comfort on call. It is a soothing cream for dry , sensitive skin. It helps to minimizes redness from irritants including weather. I love this product and really helps. It is on the expensive side though for me it is better then having dry burning facial skin for the winter months.

My skin is oily but it still suffers from dehydration once in a while. I like to use my Medik8 Hydrate B5 Serum, which is ideal for anyone with sensitive oily skin and has trouble using rich, heavy creams or lotions. I also love a good hydrating mask and mostly use my Dermalogica AGE Smart Mask to nurture my skin when its lacking in moisture. Finally a good investment is a hydrating facial spritz, that you can spray on whenever you need that little extra boost of hydration. I LOVE my Estherderm Cellular Water Spray 🙂

I have recently been using Murad skin products so I have used the hydrating mask with the Murad moisturiser in the regenerist range. I also like the Dermalogica hydrating mask. I have used other good ones in the past but can’t remember which brands. There are so many good ones on the market today and mrscleaver has mentioned some goodies as well. x

The natio ageless hydrating mask & the trilogy ultra hydrating mask are both brilliant:) Another brand i would recommend for really dry skin is badger balm. You can get some of the range from Adore beauty & Vitale websites but for the whole range go to Uncommonscents.Yes it’s in the U.S but because the prices are so much cheaper it balances it out.Hope that helps:)

Thanks so much for the tips!

Roxymisha, that’s a great idea using the hydrating mask more often. I’m currently using the body shop one, but I’m thinking about changing. Could you reccommend another good one?

RockieHazel, my skin is normal to dry and can be a little sensitive. I also agree that one has to change skin routines in different seasons. In winter, I make sure that I use a hydrating mask at least twice a week which helps enormously. I have found it best to use a hydrating mask in the same brand as my moisturiser so they work well together. In summer I might use it once a fortnight. Exfoliation is also important to maintain during winter. Again, in summer I would normally exfoliate once a week but in winter twice a week followed by the mask and moisturiser. Hope this helps.

yes. my skin tends to be the extreme ends. oily in summer, and dry in winter. find a different moisturiser to use for when your skin is dry. i usually put moisturiser on im the mornign before putting on my makeup, let it sink in. then apply what i need.
or if im not wearing makeup, ill put more moisturiser on in the middle of the day and ise a night moisturiser before i sleep.
the clean and clear moisturiser is oil free and very moisturising in winter. its very light too. its one of my favourites, under $10 🙂
