Its always good to put moistoriser on before you put on your foundation. It allows for an even finish and stops your foundation from going patchy.

It depends on your skin type on what type of moistoriser you should be using before you place on your foundation.

I like to use Garnier Nutritionist as it hydrates my skin well but if you have oily skin this might not be suitable for you

Most foundations go on better with an application of moisturiser beneath in my experience it acts as a primer. If you work in an perma-airconditioned environment I also find it helps your make up stay looking fresh for longer.

Like a few others have already said, I find that it`s best to cleanse and moisturise, let the moisturiser settle for a few minutes then do the primer, foundation, etc.

To some extent, the moisturiser works as a barrier to reduce any drying or allergic reactions that the makeup might otherwise cause.

if you`ve got dry or sensitive skin.. its best to moisturise 10-15 mins before u put on ur make-up.. then your skin won`t get so dry during the day because if you don`t have the right foundation for your skin it can dry out your skin.

i susppose if your foundation contains moisteriser theres no need, i use mineral make up and do moisterise before as it gets rid of any dryness so it doesnt clump i also use a little bit after i use the powder around my nose as i find it clumos a bit there

    Hi Frise10,
I have combo skin and have started using a Becca mineral primer…it creates a fantastic smooth finish for foundation and helps control my oil. It has no moisturiser in it (like other Becca primers, and other brands too) and has been great for me. Myer stores sell it, perhaps they could provide you with a sample?

I always use a moisturiser before foundation, but what is a primer? I`ve never heard of that. I have oily skin so have to be careful with the type of moisturiser and foundation, I`d think that I`d be really oily if I had something else on as well.

yes, use moisturiser or a primer, it creates a more even, smooth base. you could try a primer(as they are made to create a goodbase for makeup) or an oil-free moisturiser, that is nice and light. i use the cetaphil gental face wash as a moisturiser, it goes on smooth and is very gentle.

Until I found out about the magic of primers, I found if I didn`t put on moisturiser my foundation would absorb into my skin over the day. When I put on moisturiser (must wait for it to absorb) before foundation, my foundation stayed on a lot better.
