Mehendi / Henna designs

I tried a design on my palm with henna, (which is called Mehendi in Indian) and this is how it turned out. Just wanted to share it.

I’ve reported the previous post by Deepika Paul as spam. BH members: please do not click on the suspicious blue link.

Three previous older posts by meeta11, StylesNTips, sakshisinha165 also look like spam to me.

This reminds me, I need to buy some, it’s been forever for me =P
I’m nowhere near as good as you are though, my designs look extremely mediocre compared to yours =)
And, my grandparents own a small indian clothes store, they sell cones of it there so I get em for free =P

That’s right Nat. Anything acidic works. Seeing as lemon goes into the actual mixture too.
But I do have henna powder for hair, so it won’t be dark, no matter how much acidity I use!

Thanks for the tip strawberry. I do actually spray a little lemon and sugar over my designs once they’re dry, but that’s not the reason they’re dark. I bought the wrong henna! The one I’ve got is actually for the hair, not the body. I rushed to buy the powder on eBay and didnt realise it was for the hair. But in saying that, I really like the colour. It’s more of an earthy, natural tone. I’ve gotten so many positive comments 🙂
I’ve got a heap of powder to get through, but the next purchase will be the right one 🙂

i JSUT saw the thread and was going to writ that about the lemon jiuce. anything acidic helps. i have tried limes and i also added sugar that was already melted into warm vinegar, and that is mixed with a fresh lime jiuce, then using a brush u sort of lightly brush over the pattern, every 10min for a few times.

Awesome thanks for bringing this thread up, I love this style, great tips too that maybe Shazam can try for getting it darker 🙂

Ohh, there’s a trick to get it darker, you mix lemon juice and sugar and brush it over the henna (before the black mixture flakes/cracks off), it keeps the henna sticking to your hand longer so that the stain is darker when you finally scrape it off.
It’s always better to scrape then to wash it off =)

Henna tattooing is my new obsession at the moment. I’ve bought all the tools needed and I’ve drawn some great designs. It’s so much fun to do and quite relaxing. I’ll post some pics up..

The top design is an Arabic symbol for peace (we’re looking at it upside down though)
The one underneath is a hibiscus flower.
