Medical treatment for acne prone skin
I could see that there are quite a few girls here with so-called “problem skin” (i.e. acne, pimples, break outs,, etc). There is a lot of different cosmetic stuff available. But has anybody got a medical treatment, e.g from a GP, or a skin specialist? I am interested what it was, whether it was successful, and how intrusive it was.

Hey Mila,
I dont recommend you take pills, cause they will play with your hormone levels in the body and you could get side effects, they also really dry your skin out.
I think a change in diet, a good skincare routine and excercise would make the world of difference…also make sure you drink a lot of water as it can rid the body of toxins!
Hope it all helps! -

Ooh, Haven`t tried moogoo, didn`t even realise that moogoo did acne!
It`s a very, very new cream (only a week or two old) they have some trial info up for their previous formula and they`ve tweaked it further since then. It`s also really different because you use it as a moisturiser instead of a cleanser like most acne treatments. They recommend you use an oil cleanser with it. I might ask for a sample with my next Moogoo order since I only really get hormonal or stress related acne (so not that often).

I would steer clear from anything with Benzoyl Peroxide – i`m not fond of the idea of putting bleach on my skin as it can cause irreversible damage which is something I wouldn`t want any young person to experience. Reading about all of the negative reactions from former users of products like Proactiv turned me off of those sorts of products.
Moogoo recently came out with an Acne Cream, it`s basically a moisturiser. Their website is really informative. http://www.moogoo.com.au/specialty-creams/acne-cleansing-cream.html
As beautyqueen95 mentioned, try a body wash with Salicylic Acid and you could then use the moogoo cream as a moisturiser perhaps.
That sounds great, wonder if any acne sufferers have had success using it ??

Hi hun,
I used to have acne a couple years ago and I spent hours and hours trying to find a good treatment with a dermatologist. I actually had mild acne but for some reason nothing would work on my skin.
Then one day I tried benzoyl peroxide, you can find it at any pharmacy discounted stores. Anyway, within a week all my acne was gone! I still use it once a day to prevent acne and I get like a pimple per month! That`s it! That was a miracle treatment for me.
Hope it helped.

I`m not sure about that Blondie.
My close friend had severe acne, and her skin is near perfect after a year of roac. But, it is on prescription, as it can cause birth defects if you take it while pregnant. She has to have regular blood tests as well.
If it is THAT bad, go to the docters/skin specialists. Docters start with the pill (if she has her periods) that will both regulate periods, and help with acne. Then they tend to move to roac if it doesn`t work, but you stay on the pill, so you can`t get pregnant, and sue the doc`s for malpractice if you fall pregnant and the foetus miscarries/has birth defects. Roac is really a last chance thing.
Start with a spot treatment – she may need a sister/mum to put it on her back, salicylic body wash (neutrogena have one – body clear body wash). Benzac ac comes in different strengths – 2.5%, 5% and 10%. Start with either 2.5% or 5% and move up if it isn`t strong enough. It is about $15 for a 50mL tube, lasts ages (on my face! I don`t get body acne much, thank god.) Available at priceline/chemist. Using one of the fluffy puffy things helps as well.
Another thing I did was I mixed a cleanser I didn`t like (a gel) with a small bit of palmolive. Or the neutrogena grapefruit facewash I just used as a body wash, which helped. Neutrogena also have a body bar for acne.

Hi beauties
I`ve mentioned this a few times on Bh but I`ve been on Roac in my 20`s and it was the best thing since sliced bread for me personally. Before Roac, my GP thought she`d try me on antibiotics but that did nothing at all for the acne which I was suffering from. My GP referred me then to a skin specialist who put me on Roac. Roac fixed my skin and brought me back my confidence which acne stole from me for a short time.
I`m stoked there was a simple solution afterall to my complex hormonally & genetically caused acne. Roac was a simple solution for me after spending years trying everything that existed to rid myself of it. I feel for those youngsters when I see them now covered in acne and I wish I could tell them they don`t have to suffer (but I don`t of course!). Atleast here on Bh I can share my success with Roac. Mind you it does dry everything out for the short term. That`s the only side effect I personally got so I used a lot of quality lip balms and sunscreens – the flipside is that my skin`s been pretty well-behaved post Roac treatment, thankfully.
If any of my daughter`s start to suffer the way I did I`ll be taking them to my skin specialist and letting them go on Roac too.
It`s very liberating to have acne-free skin and it`s so attainable with the right treatment/product. It`s so good to hear other beauties finding different ways of fixing their acne too. It can be done!
