Media Ghouls

Beauties, do any of you feel that the media is going to far in their reporting of the recent National and New Zealand tragedies. My case in point was yesterday one of the news channels rang someone who was still under the rubble in Christchurch. Not only was the woman they talked to quite distressed, she was not even sure who she was talking too, stated they she didn’t want to be on the phone to conserve battery power, yet the studio talking head kept up the totally inane questions like “can you describe what it is like”. I truly believe that journalism in Australia, especially the commercial stations are taking things to an all time low. Having a look at forums for the stations in question, it seems I’m not the only one feeling like this. All for informative, clear reportage, but some of coverage is getting slightly ghoulish. What do you beauties think??

On the whole the standard of journalism is slipping. I’m a NZer but generally find the reporters over here are a bit better. I hate it when you can tell the journalists have no idea about what they’re talking about, talk over the people they’re interviewing and don’t let them answer properly, and aren’t even listening to the answers they are being given. It’s also annoying when they are too busy thinking about the next question they’re going to ask they don’t even realise it has already been answered! It’s so frustrating. When you read print media online there are always people complaining in the comments section about the quality of the articles.

I agree. It seems that they are grasping at straws to keep the coverage going!
I haven’t seen too much on the current coverage.
But with the brisbane floods one reporter asked 2 kids like 7 and 10 “Have you ever seen anything like this before?”

I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments. Even the ABC was talking on the phone to an Aussie doctor who was in Christchurch attending a conference (there were a couple of hundred Aussie doctors there) and the journalist was asking the most stupid questions as if he knew everything that had happened! I think print, TV and radio journalism in this country is suffering from amateurish behaviour and I am not impressed with the quality of reports. I have a friend who thinks the same way and is now cancelling her newspaper subscription for similar reasons. She always read the paper from front to back every single day but is so unimpressed with the media these days that she is prepared to forego what used to be something enjoyable.
