Nicelegs, I agree with your decision to throw it out rather than keep it for longer. Prevention is definitely better than cure. I haven`t had an eye infection, but I think I`d rather avoid it.

put in warm water (with lid sealed) will free it up

I know the pain but it`s not a waste Nicelegs, it really can be dangerous to let the bacteria breed for longer than that, so we`ve all got to do it for our health… but not our wallets, unfortunately.

I throw my mascara out every 3 months. It`s a waste I know and I never finish the whole tube but once I had an eye infection using a mascara 1 year old. Made my eyes so swollen and itchy. Now when it comes to mascara and any other eye products, 3 – 6 months maximum.

sometimes when my mascaras are almost finished and getting to that clumpy stage i take a single use vial of some lubricating non-medicated eye drops and just and one or two drops. i can usually get another week or so of wear out of it. if you use a single use vial, they are sealed and completely sterile so it won`t introduce any bacteria either.

but i think what everyone has said is correct, a new mascara should not be clumpy so i would take it back. i only use eye drops to rescue an old, almost finished one to stretch it out for another week or so, just to save some $$$.

Yeah the girls at Mac should be nice about it, if they arent you can complain. Its not your fault the mascara you got happened to be clumpy and crap

Hi Stupe are you talking about the formula of the mascara you bought is dry and clumpy or are you talking about when your applying it it is clumpy?

French Fun is right. A `good` mascara should not be clumpy. Take it back and show them. If it`s old they`ll be able to tell and will probably offer you a new one.
