Makeup faux paux

Lets get this straight, I’m no beauty icon and am certainly not a makeup artist, but have you ever been innocently minding your own business when BANG you see someone who doesn’t get the simple application of makeup?

You know what I’m taling about. Like in the Simpsons, where Homer invents the makeup gun…Some people look like they’ve purchased a similar item.

Or perhaps you’ve noticed people wearing a darker foundation to give the impression of a tan. Instead they have a distinctive tide mark, usually around the jaw line.

I just pray that if someone thought I was putting my blush on with a spatular that they’d love me enough to say something….know what I’m talking about?

In David Jones (years ago), I went for a complimentary makeup session – to try the new seasons colours. I was dubious from the get go because her makeup was so bad but thought “”what the hell””. When she`d finished and held up the mirror, I had a hard time hiding my horror. She`d tranformed me into a tramp. I quickly grabbed some tissues and raced off wiping makeup as I went. I guess that`s the risk you take with those sorts of offers. The joke was on me that day!

The hubby and I were driving through the city on day and my husband noticed this girl walking down the street and said `OMG – look at her make up!` Now I was very surprised he noticed because 1 – he is a bloke, 2 – he hardly notices my make up and 3 – I hadn`t spotted her first. This girl had on the most orange foundation / bronzer I have ever seen (we saw this from about 10 meters away – hate to think what it looked like up close…) She had applied it from under her cheek bones all the way to her jaw line – but it was soooooo dark, I am assuming she was trying to create the illusion of cheekbones with some not so cleaver shading? She was probably in her early 20`s, I just don`t know how she left the house thinking it looked good…..
I also remember my step sister telling me when I were about 15 that she`d show me how to put make up on…I took one look at her pink and blue eyeshadow and ginger perm and said `uh I don`t think so…` (she would have been in her late 20`s early 30`s)

Yeah i have seen a lot of older women who look like they are stuck in 80`s mode! Bright red lipstick and blue eyeshadow! heeh. i know some crossdressers do their make up soo good, i wonder how they could ever be the opposite sex! but yeah a few also do a pretty bad job making it really obvious! cringe worthy almost.

I`ve seen women of all ages walking around apparently oblivious to their disasterous makeup. I remember watching an old couple walk past while I was sitting in a shopping centre a while ago. I struggled not to laugh out loud at the clown like bright lipstick, blush and eyeshadow that the woman was wearing. I really felt sorry for her because to get it that wrong, she must have been just about blind.

I also tend to feel sorry for a lot of crossdressers who just don`t look right. Some crossdressers manage to do the best makeup of anyone I`ve ever seen but some just make me cringe.

Haha, I know what you mean though, bad fake tan is such a bad look, which is why I don`t do it myself anymore 🙂

Haha sorry glossqueen didn`t mean to have an insult indirectly head your way…at least you`ve figured out you can`t do it and leave it to the professionals now! 🙂

There is a make-up rep in one of the Myer stores here, she comes into my work and looks down her nose at me (snotty cow!) but whenever I go into her store she sucks up. Obviously doesn`t recognise me from my work! Anyway, she is always wearing way darker lipliner WAY outside her natural lip line – I dont know how she can leave the house looking like that! Does she think people believe that her lips are really that big? I hate when people wear those massive lined lips like Pammy Anderson – it just doesn`t look real, a bit clown-like.

Oh glossqueen, I remember trying fake tanning when I was in my teens. I neglected to wash my hands, which understandably went orange. I was mortified.

I remember reading somewhere that a woman should change her hair and make-up every 2 years to make sure she`s not looking dated and older than she is.

Elmo, I`m a fake tanning disaster story! Every time I`ve tried to fake tan myself it`s looked really awful, streaky and orange, so now I just get a spray tan when I need it.

But i`d never tell her, its not my place and besides id prob be chucked out of the store!
