Long-lasting vibrant hair colour
Hi ladies!
I’ve recently dyed my hair red (naturally black) and I’m wondering what the best hair products are to maintain the red colour in my hair.
I had red foils previously and it didn’t take long for them to fade!
Any suggestions beauties??

Do you dye it yourself? If so when I used to dye my hair red I’d put a bit of Macadamia Natural Oil in the mix, it definately helps with shine and lasting! I use it now when I dip dye my ends too. Other than that the products you have should help. Red is just one of those colours that is most likely to fade, over time though it will grab to the hair better and better.
No I haven’t dyed my hair red yet. I only got it coloured last week at the hairdressers. If I do, I’ll definitely add some macadamia oil to it. Thanks!

I think Scent mentioned that rinsing your hair with strong coffee or tea makes the red more vibrant.
Sounds silly but when I was a teenager, I used to use concentrated beetroot juice on my uncoloured hair to just give that redish brightness. I think it worked, lolRedken and Goldwell are some of the great brands to try. I am currently using L’Oreal Professional. L’Oreal Professional has a gel colour mask which I used sometime ago and I liked it 🙂
Wow the tea and coffee idea sounds good. I have browny blonde but the hairdresser told me Redken blonde will be good for me. I’m not sure what redken products are like as I haven’t tried them yet. I’ve heard they are good though.

oh and I would strongly reccomend never to use anti-dandruff shampoos on coloured hair, EVER. Unless your hoping to fade the colour.

Thanks for the tips girls. I went to hairhouse warehouse yesterday and spoke to one of the stylists and they recommended the Matrix range for my hair. It’s supposed to protect my hair from colouring and also keep the colour.
I also bought a colour-lock leave-in spray by Paul Mitchell.
I am thinking about putting a rinse in my hair once the red starts to fade. How about putting in a permanent red colour? Would that affect the quality of the red in my hair?

You can use a shampoo and conditioner for colour treated hair, and make sure you do weekly treatments to keep your hair healthy. Redken treatments are really good, a bit expensive (about $30 for a tub), but it does work! Treatments will also help your hair stay shiny, thus not having dull looking locks. I haven’t had red hair personally, but i have dyed it in the past. As with the fading, i think that will happen over time, so maybe just put a rinse though your hair every so often 🙂

They say that the Redken colour extending products are good for coloured hair. My friend also uses that and she’s got red hair with white blonde streaks and its seemed to hold its colour well after a few months and she only gets the roots done.
I can vouch for L’oreal Proffessional but my hairdresser sells that to me so I don’t know if you can purchase that in salons or not?
But check out Redken it might help preserve the colour for you.
