Leg Waxing skin trauma

I had my legs waxed using a DIY wax strip kit about 3weeks ago and after waxing found that some areas of skin on my lower legs was left looking like the skin had also been removed, not just the hairs. 3 weeks on and these areas are now looking very dry and almost scar like, kind of like light dry scabbing on the areas. Im trying to use gentle natural moisturiser and vitamin e to help heal it but was wondering has anyone else ever had this happen? First time it’s happened to me i’m wondering if it was the brand i used as i have waxed DIY with strips before and had no probs. Any advice will really help as its summer & i want to show my legs but can’t until these patches heal.

Empire waxing can hurt a bit, but don’t be put off. Go to a reputable salon and give it a go. They will be able to walk you through all of the outcomes and after care. I do waxing for aliving and everyones skin and reactions are different. Give it a go or try an epilator. i use an emjoi gold for my under arms as i am to slack to wax.

Empire, i’ve waxed plenty of times and honestly never had a prob, this was a one off and i’m sure it was just a bad wax batch, Please don’t fear waxing it’s not as bad as most people make it seem 🙂 BlondieEmz, glad to hear you purchased an epilator, i was looking t the priceline ones too the remington and braun, silk epil etc. Do you mind if i ask which one you bought? It’s good to hear positive feedback about them and i’m keen to buy one i’m just stuck trying to decide which one!

Just bought an epilator today from Priceline. Soo much better than waxing. Works really well and doesnt hurt at all.

Ouch!!!! All of this is adding to my phobia of waxing. I’m waiting for the price of ILP to come down so regular people can afford it, then I’m getting rid of it all forever!!!!
In the meantime I’m considering getting an epilator, but this seems painful and slow.

I know goddess, it is very frustrating, I just ignored it, as there wasn’t much I could do – I was spending heaps of time swimming and wasn’t going to miss out on that for the sake of some skin damage on my legs. I imagine had I got sunburned though it would have been more severe where the skin was removed.
Do you have a friend who has an epilator? Perhaps you could borrow theirs to try to see if you like it. They are great, but they do take time.

bluerose sorry to hear you had a similar reaction, Time is definitely what its taken for mine to heal, looking much better now (and am pretty sure it was the wax, had no probs since switching to another type) . Definitely considering an epilator, just want to find out more about them, pros/cons etc so i can find one that will suit me. Newbun, i wondered if waxing would cause skin sagging longterm, interesting point you make. I know the cartridges you mean morwenna, i have a friend who used to use a similar system and they never had any probs either. Glad i’m ok again, was a little worried for a while & frustrated as it was a slow time process that really healed it up again, all i could do was apply things to help soothe.

I wax my legs frequently but we don’t buy the DIY strips. My sister waxes them for me but we use a heated wax applier, you buy the wax cartridges and the applience heats the wax up so you can roll it on then you use material strips to take the hair/wax off. The cartridges are called waxaway so I am guessing the appliance comes from the same company. And like Sakeenah said you put some baby powder on first to stop it from ripping your skin off, well at least not the dead skin anyway. After we use the spray on sunburn soother from LeTan and that helps too. I hope this has helped 🙂

goddess, sorry to hear about the dramas you had with waxing. About 8 weeks ago I had a leg wax (was doing a girlfriends and she was doing mine), and it took a heap of the top layer of skin off my legs. The area was red and scaly like you said, and nothing but time healed it. I’m sure it was the wax, because when my legs were finished we put some new wax in the pot and my friend lost no skin. I had exfoliated and moisturised before waxing (not straight before, but that morning). I have an epilator, and although it does take more time than waxing, you don’t loose skin.

the only “problems” ive had with waxing is the redness, i would invest in an epilator because it doesnt pull on the skin, also waxing in the long run loosens the elasticity in the skin and causes it to wrinkle and sag
