Kiss & Tell: Chapter 1
Heyy. Thanks to those who encouraged me to go on 🙂 This is part 1 🙂 Hope you like it. xo
The first week of the new school, had gone surprisingly well. Her, Sienne, Anna and Bailey were now ‘BFFLs’. But now, here she was, home alone, sitting on the floor in front of the TV. Her mum was at work, doing some sort of conference and she’d been left alone to entertain herself. She had tried numerous ways to achieve this. But, to no avail. Her first attempt at beating boredom, was sliding around the kitchen area in socks. It sounded fun in her head, but when carried out, left a purple bruise on her knee after she tripped on a loose floorboard. ‘Note to self. Get that fixed.’ Her second attempt, was an old toboggan and the stairs.
As she sat on the small purple tray, she realised what a bad idea it actually was, thinking of damage (to herself and the house), and also punishment. So instead, she chose the safer option of remaining alive and sitting on the plush carpet listening to her iPod. She nodded her head to the music for a few minutes and then looked out the window. It was a bit cloudy.
‘Perfect day for a look around’ she thought to herself as she made her way upstairs. Not even bothering to look at what she’d picked out from her wardrobe, she quickly got changed into some jeans and an old tee her mum had bought her for her birthday years ago. Taking another look outside, she decided it was best to take a warm cardigan as well. Sighing to herself, she made her way back down the stairs and through the door, locking it on her way out.
She made her way through the streets, coming to the conclusion that it was a bigger town than it looked a few weeks ago. She had passed through the residential area and was now in the actual town. Surprisingly, there weren’t many people around which was a bit weird because it was the weekend. She shrugged it off and continued walking.
Not looking where she was going, she was suddenly on the hard ground, looking dazed and confused. She rubbed her forehead, whatever she had run into was hard. Looking up, she saw that it wasn’t what, but who. A boy, who looked familiar, was staring back down at her, also looked confused but instead of rubbing his head, he rubbed his chest. “Are you okay?” he asked, putting a hand toward her to help her up. “Uh, yeah, I guess so. What about you?” she asked, taking the hand.
Once she was standing, she realised why he was rubbing his chest. He was much taller than her, but looked young. “I’m fine.” he said. “I think you were hurt more than I.” He continued, chuckling to himself. He was gorgeous. His raven hair fell across his amazing green eyes and she noticed he had his lip pierced. She smiled, in agreement. “I’m Oliver. Oliver Winters ” He said, introducing himself. “Maggie Lovett.” She replied. “You don’t happen to attend Lucas Heights High, do you?” She nodded. “Just started this week.” she said, smiling. “I thought I recognized you. You’re in my English class, with Ms. Henderson.” Wow. How had she not noticed him? “Oh, wow. I’ve never noticed you. Sorry.” She said, trying to think of a way out of this awkwardness.
“It’s ok. Not many people notice me anyways.” He said, looking down to the ground and away from her eyes. He noticed the confused look return to her angelic face. “Why don’t they notice you?” She asked. “You’re not some stalker slash rumoured murderer, right?” He laughed. “Of course I’m not.” He said, still laughing to himself. “People seem to think I’m the ’emo’ kid.”
Maggie replaced the confused look, to a more surprised one. She hadn’t been completely surprised. She knew how much people liked to judge. After all, some would think he was that tad bit ’emo’. Dark hair, lip pierced and the most gorgeous eyes. His clothes weren’t that bad. Dark blue skinny jeans and a tee. He didn’t look ’emo’ to her and she felt herself begin to get angry at how quickly people judged others. Everyone else probably never spoke to him because of how he looked. But she had to admit, she was surprised he didn’t have girls hanging of him. He was gorgeous. Even if he was supposedly ’emo’.
She realised she had been quiet for a few minutes now and quickly spoke. “Well, I don’t care if you’re emo or whatever. You’re my friend now.” She smiled a friendly smile and he returned it. He felt himself beginning to like her. Very much. “Well, thanks for that.” He said. “So will I expect you to talk to me at school, or will it be one of those secret friendships?” He asked, laughing slightly. “Of course I’ll talk to you at school, and maybe even sit with you sometimes.” She said. “Cool. Anyways, I have to go. I’m meeting up with some mates.” He said, beginning to walk away. He stopped in his tracks. “Do you want to come?” He asked. He watched as she looked down at her phone. “Sorry, I can’t. I have to go home. My mum will be waiting or most likely worrying.” He gave a quick wave. “Talk to you later, I guess.” She smiled. “Sure thing.”
It was only at school during lunch break, that she finally saw Oliver again. Her heart fluttered when she saw him, this time on a very sunny day making his light green eyes shimmer in the light. He was standing with two other guys. She noticed how extremely good looking they were, like Oliver. He met her gaze and smiled, waving slightly. She smiled and waved back and continued walking to the spot on the grass where the ‘group’ had chosen to sit on this beautiful day.
As she sat down on the warm, green grass, she noticed that there were new additions to the group around her. Anna noticed the confused face and quickly helped out. “Maggie, this is Nate and Connor.” She said, pointing to the two boys sitting beside Sienne and Belle. Nate was blonde with deep, chocolate eyes whereas Connor had light, caramel hair with ocean blue eyes. They both waved and she saw Nate give a quick smile at Connor before returning his gaze.
The rest of lunch break was spent talking about the weekend and what was planned for this weekend. “So, Maggie.” Nate began. “I’m having a party at my place on Saturday night. Feel like coming?” he asked. She watched as all eyes fell on her. “Um, I’d have to ask but I will if I can.” Nate smiled. “Awesome.” Something about Nate didn’t feel right and she felt uncomfortable being around him. Thankfully, the bell went and she gave a sigh of relief as they went their separate ways.
She walked into the almost full English classroom and noticed someone sitting beside her usual seat. Oliver. She held back her smile and continued walking. “Well, hello there.” She said, in a fake British accent. “I don’t believe we’ve met.” He gave a small chuckle. “No, I don’t believe we have.” he said, catching on quickly. “I’m Oliver, and you are?” She pulled in her chair. “I’m Maggie.” They shook hands and returned their attention to Ms Henderson, silently giggling to themselves. English went by slowly, as usual. Oliver had decided it would be amusing for him to tickle Maggie in the ribs, causing a short outburst of laughter and an odd look from Ms Henderson.
Finally, English was over. As Maggie looked at her timetable, she frowned. Maths. Nate was in her Maths class, as well as Oliver and she happened to be seated in the middle of the two. If only it was just her and Oliver, like in English. As she took her seat in the room, Oliver joined her shortly after, followed by Nate.
She noticed a scowl on Nate’s face as he saw Oliver take his seat. She shrugged it off, and as payback for what had happened in English, she elbowed Oliver in the ribs. It had come as a surprise attack and she laughed at the look on his face, which was of pure astonishment.
Nate watched in jealousy. How could this emo kid be getting all of her attention, how could she not have fallen for him like every other girl in the school? Something had to be done if he wanted to win the bet. Something was going to be done, and it was going to be done this Saturday.
