Thanks for all the info!! I really appreciate it. Though I am scared that if I go into Myers to buy the bare study paint pot it is going to be very difficult not to buy other colours as well! I have never even tested a paint pot before but i love the sound of them – they sound lovely to apply.
I followed Magda’s recommendation for an eyeshadow base primer and its the best thing I ever did, my eyeshadow lasts all day vibrant and not oily, hehe.
It is the Laura Mercia Eye Basics in Wheat, and it is a fraction of the price of most others 🙂

Interesting read. Selinaaa nice haul of items you got there 🙂 I have never heard of Bare study till now but it sounds great. Creasing shadow is a problem I have as I find my eyelids look wrinkly to me and shadow just doesn’t sit well without some type of primer.

I don’t use any other primers, in fact I don’t like any other primers. Just a thin layer of Bare Study has never ever creased on me and I do have fairly deep eyelids so i’m prone to creasing. I have never worn it for long enough on it’s own to know wether it would crease without an eyeshadow over the top to ‘set’ it, but in the 3-4 hours that I have worn it on it’s own it has never creased.
It doesn’t change the finish of your eyeshadow but it does seem to intensify the colour a little bit because the eyeshadow ‘sticks’ to the Paint Pot a lot easier. If I apply a matte colour over the top of it, the colour is still matte with the exception of very light (white, ivory, cream) eyeshadows, it does give them a little bit of a sheen (not shimmery though).
It makes crappy eyeshadow last a lot longer. I wouldn’t say that it makes it easier to apply, but it definitely makes the eyeshadow have a better colour pay-off. If the eyeshadow has a lot of fall-out or is really chalky, it won’t change that (how ever if you do have a chalky eyeshadow, try applying it with your finger in a patting motion rather than with a brush, it gives a nicer effect.)
I don’t wait at all to put eyeshadow over the top, I just put on the paint pot up to my brow and then go straight in with the shadow.
I do find that Paint Pots have a bit more grip than most primers, which can sometimes increase the amount of time that you need to spend with blending your shadows. So what I do is apply the paint pot, then cover my whole eye with a base colour so that any shadows you apply on top of it will blend easier. This doesn’t impact the staying power of the shadows at all.
Just the other day I was out to dinner with my sister (who is also make-up obsessed) and she didn’t believe that I hadn’t touched up my eyeshadow after work because it looked far to fresh to have been on all day lol. She has since been using Bare Study as a primer also and loves it.

I highly, highly, highly recommend Bare Study. In fact if someone was to ask me to recommend just one eye product it would be Bare Study. I use it as an eye primer mostly and it is AMAZING. At the end of the day my eyeshadow looks exactly the same as it did in the morning. There is never any creasing, never any smudging and never any fading. It makes eyeshadows more vibrant. I have used it every single day for about a year and a half and am still on my first pot with probably about another 6 months use left in it. It hasn’t dried out at all. I have occasionally worn it just on it’s own when i’m in a hurry, or as a brow/cheek highlighter. I don’t have many items that I will never change or that I would call ‘holy grail products’ but Bare Study is definitely one of them.
wow…what a review!! I’d never heard of this so just did a quick google and have a few questions for you:
*i read that some said they tried this as a primer but their shadow creased after 4hrs so they now apply primer, then this, then eye shadow – what do you do?
*does it change your eye shadow at all – ie does it give matte shadow a shimmer?
*does it make it any easier to apply crappy eyeshadow – ie eyeshadow that is a bit chalky?
*how long do you have to wait after applying it to apply your eyeshadow on top (ie i usually wait a couple of mins to make sure my primer is dry – do you need to wait with this).Thats all for now…and sorry Selinaaa for the hijack!
