How to: Choosing the Right Lipstick?

Hi beauties!

Me with a big dlemma!

I’ve been in search for a lipstick that suits me…I’ve tried a lot of colours and a lot of brands (Natio, Ulta, Estee Lauder etc) but they all seem to stand out too much against my skin. Somehow, just eyeliner and lipstick make me look so dolled up!

So what’s the best way to choose a lipstick colour that suits your skintone and doesn’t make you look over the top? I don’t want to continue buying lipsticks that end up in my drawer after one swipe on my lips!

xoxo,

Mdy_118 – I Agree with the other Girls , choose a lipstick colour thats close to you skin tone – then once you get your confidence up you’ll be able to get a bit bolder with your , Reds and Pinks and deeper toned colours , just take small steps and experiment you will find the look you are looking for, the look that suits YOU. Remember Gloss Is Good Gloss Is Great ! P.S. Being Dolled up is what us Girls are Suppose to do. – Deb xx

Maybe try different ways of applying lipstick?
I particularly like the stain effect- apply lipstick, wait for a few minutes, then dab and press on tissue. Reapply if you like or add some gloss. Plus gives you staying power.
Lip brush gives you precision but not necessary intense colour so swipe a bit of lipstick on the brush before evenly applying it on your lips.

I hope a few tool tricks will help you!

I agree, start with paler colours closer to your natural skin colour and then gradually experiment. I chop and change my lip colours depending on the season and the fashion. Not all shades look good with all outfits. I would suggest that you start with some cheaper lippies and experiment.

I hate testers so I’ve bought many lipsticks that didn’t suit me but if you google “lipstick complexion guides” or something similar, there are alot of guides suggesting which sort of shades suit different complexions, so they’ve been a big help.

I agree that starting with something subtle, close to your own colouring is the way to go at first, then build a little collection from there as you figure what looks you like 🙂

I have never felt comfortable with lipstick on ….i love glosses only

i used to be in your position shull87. and then slowly i tried with lipstick, peachy tone, almost similar to my lips colour.u can start with lip gloss with lipstick coloured consistency or staying power.

try a pink shimmer… maybe a rose colour or peach. I have maybelline Peach, and some pale rose lippies. I don’t wear lipstick much & most look extremely bold on me when I wear them, but these paler shimmer colours look pretty & almost natural but a little more glam than nothing. Otherwise try a lightly coloured gloss to add some colour which won’t overpower xx

I’d have to agree with roxymisha, most of my lipstics are close to my lips colour, then I started going bolder with bright red, lighter pink and even kinda burgundy red.I think once u get used to ur lips colour, that’s when ur more confident playing with other colours later on.I have thick lips, and apparently not recommended to wear red lipsticks as it’ll make them look thicker, but I still wear it,I guess depends on the different shade of red as well. Be confident and u’d feel good abt urself honey x

Mdy 118, you may not want much colour on your lips so suggest what Bobbi Brown says – find a colour that is the same as your lips or go one shade darker and use a similar lipliner. If you want extra shine then use a lipgloss on top. Agree with Hk_Candy that confidence can affect your choice of colour. x

When you first want to build a collection of lipstick maybe try colours that are suited for all skin tones and colours:) Simple pinks, simple reds and the mauvey coloured are what I liked!

Sometimes confidence affects the way you feel about the colour on your lip as well!!
