Hives – skin problem or food problem?

Hi everyone.
For the past 3 years on and off I get hives. I’m not sure what’s causing them. I do however get a reaction to expensive (usually sensitive skin type) brands where the skin around my nose and chin burns off. I was wondering does anyone else have the same problems and is it food allergies or skin products or both?
