Highschool tips
I’m currently in highschool right now, and I was wandering if anyone that has already expreienced highschool can give me tips on how to cope with it. Schoolwork, friends (this especially), beauty…life in general. Thanks, I would really appreciate it. 🙂

i think the most important thing about high school despite education haha is probably growing to become the individual you want to be, personally i got bullied in year 7 so i was fortunate enough to move schools but once i moved i was so afraid that it would happen again so i didn’t speak for the first 2 months and then one day a kind girl approached me and my new life began
i think it’s really important to realise that you cant please everyone, people will fail you and you’ll fail them too, its just the way life is and so this means you’ll face conflict with friends and family especially at such a stressful time in your young life but you’ll hit conflict with yourself so when this happens, use the information you have at the time to make the best possible decisions for the future
- also with guys, a guy worth being with is a guy that respects you, so don’t just try and get their attention by exposing yourself, if they like you for who you are and vice versa then he’s the one you should be with
you can only try your best to have no regrets, 🙂
good luck and sorry for the essay -

I went through high school a couple of years ago. Honestly I hated it. I got bullied to the point that i’d refuse to go to school for weeks at a time, i’d barely scrape through each year in terms of grades, my friends from primary school drifted apart and I fell in with the wrong crowd. I think it helps to have supportive parents (which I didn’t have so I had a little online family made up of some amazing people that I knew online).
I don’t want to put you off of school because it’s important to stick through it (even to get into tafe here a lot of courses require you to have completed year 12) I just want to say that if you don’t get good grades and you don’t get into uni straight out of school it’s not the end of the world like everyone thnks it is.
I’ve done tafe courses on and off since I finished school in 2008 and i’m planning on going to uni as a mature age student when I turn 21, i’ve also worked ever since I was 15 (I didn’t have a choice in it though). As much as having extra money is nice, if you want to focus on your schooling DONT get a part time job. Rarely you’ll get a manager who will give you enough time to study, see your friends, etc but most will expect you to work whenever they ask you to, even if you should be studying for exams.
And another thing, bad stuff always happens at parties. If you want to do well in school, avoid them! That way people won’t be gossiping about who you made out with when you were drunk and you won’t be killing off your brain cells with alcohol.

I just want to add my 2 cents on guy friends. I think it is great to have them as it is a different kind of friendship than with girls. You get a different perspective on things and it is always great to hear a guy’s point of view about things. Fortunately for me, I always had great guy friends throughout school and uni as well as in different workplaces. Sometime though the guys wanted to take things to a romantic level which caused a few problems. But even today when I run into guys I knew from school we can always have a good chat and catch up. So, if possible, do have a mix of girl and guy friends.

Oh and as BQ said make friends with guys! 😛 (seriously their perspective can sometimes be very enlightening)
Their perspective is very enlightening!! There is one guy in particular I can tell anything to, and he almost always has a great idea or something to cheer me up with!
I love how they see the world almost in black and white, it is either okay or not, whereas sometimes I umm and ahhh about whether it is or not…
I recently became quite good friends with this guy (I’m not really sure if were dating or not… but that’s another story!) But it’s nice to hang out with some a little more light-hearted, sometimes my friends are just too intellectual haha

Thank you very much Zompea. Your tips are really helpful and I would be adding these to my daily life routine. Your help has been great to me, thank you so much! 🙂

Such pearls of wisdom BQ ☺
I’m in year 11 this year at a school where the pressure to do well academically is immense. But I could not imagine myself going to another school, the friends I’ve made and the things you learn are invaluable.
If the last few years have taught me anything…
Schoolwork: Try not to leave things to the minute and don’t try cram for exams. My downfall is often procrastination, but I’m more mindful of it now and try and make a conscious effort to study. You’ll find that starting an assignment is often the hardest part, once you’re over that hurdle it’s much easier to do the work. Also if the opportunity presents itself, study in groups – the best way understand something is to teach it to someone else. This may just be me, but I find it’s better for me to not stay up late at night to do work and instead wake up early the next day to do it.
Beauty: Keep it fresh and simple. My morning make up routine consists of Stila SPF 30 tinted moisturiser (sun protection is important!), Revlon colorstay liquid eyeliner, Benefit Sugarbomb blush, Covergirl lash blast mascara and a bit of concealer sometimes. It takes me about 10min at the most. On a bit of a tangent… figure out your “exam hair” i.e. the hairstyle you have for when you do your exams. Mine is just pinning back the front parts of my hair so that it’s out of my face (some people like ponytails, but I find them uncomfortable)
Friends – Friends are sooooooo important. I’m blessed to have a wonderful group of friends at school that I know I can rely on. As BQ said, be wise when choosing friends and make sure that they make you happy. Find people who share your common interests and whom you find engaging. My friends and I often go out for lunch or have breakfast at a café before school starts. It does come down to instinct really, you’ll know when you’ve found truly great friends. Although having friends in your own grade is important, don’t be afraid of making friends with people across grades (I’ve met some wonderful people who are 2 grades below me). Oh and as BQ said make friends with guys! 😛 (seriously their perspective can sometimes be very enlightening)
It just trying to balance your friends, family and school. Pick the subjects that you love to do and try and gain more out of school than just superficial knowledge (I mean how much geometry will I actually need 10 years from now!).
