Help with a simple, light moisturiser

I’ve been looking for a new moisturiser for ages. I need one to use at night time, but I don’t want an actual night cream, so it can’t have spf.
The one I’m using at the moment is Sukin Facial Moisturiser, but I find it stings my face and I can’t get it anywhere near my eyes. It has a huge ingredients list with a lot of essential oils so could this be the culprit?
Is there such as thing as a natural moisturiser that just contains a few simple ingredients? I used to use Simple Light Hydrating Moisturiser which I found worked fine with my skin, nice and hydrating, non irritating etc. but it’s not natural.
Maybe I’m being too obsessed with finding ‘natural’ products? Are non-natural products ‘bad’ for your skin in the long run, or do you think they’re fine to use?
Aaaaah I’m so confused. My skin is being quite difficult at the moment too!
I was looking at trying this SHE moisturiser “click”:http://www.naturalhealthorganics.com.au/She-Instant-Vitality-Day-Cream-pr-1741.html but it says it’s a day cream. Would this be ok to use at night anyway? Or maybe I should just go back to the Simple one…

i would suggest giving QV day cream a go.. it`s SPF 15+ and it`s non-greasy, no perfume, it`s just a simple cream and leaves your face with a matte finish – perfect to apply makeup over.

No probs! 🙂 From what I`ve learnt over the past few months – I`d just steer clear of mienral oil altogether.
    .
I just purchased the cetaphil dry skin lotion last night (as my skin has been going a bit crazy lately needed something simple and basic to help calm it down!) – it is quite moisturising so you could perhaps go for the oily skin option if that is more your skin type? Didn`t realise they had a shea butter one though I like the sound of that!
    .
Oooh I just thought of another great suggestion – you could try trilogy vital moisturising cream – I had bought this and LOVED it except it wasn`t moisturising enough for me (I should`ve really gone with the ultra hydrating cream) so I gave it to my friend who has normal/dry skin – and she loves it!! It`s nice and light, natural ingredients, no nasties – I`m not sure of the cost prob around $20-30? You can buy Trilogy at myer – they have some really nice products!

Thanks Elmo, that info is so helpful, you`re a fountain of knowledge =) The third ingredient for the Simple Light Hydrating Moisturiser is mineral oil in the form of Paraffinum Liquidum, it says it acts as in emollient (Glycerin is the second ingredient), so do you think I should avoid this? I`m interested in Cetaphil, but which product do you use as a face moisturiser? There`s cream, lotion and a shea butter one. I don`t really like my moisturiser to be too thick, so maybe the lotion?

Hi Eskimo – I`m having struggles with my skin at the moment too, so I hope I can help you out!
    .
First up – you can use any cream you want as a night cream. I have a friend who uses Dermalogica Active Moist as day cream (for normal skin) and Derm Skin smoothing cream as a night cream. Whereas I uses skin smoothing cream as a day cream and the heavier intensive moisture balance as a night cream. It all just depends on your skin type. Basically, some night creams have different ingredients to boost your skin overnight and help it repair itself faster.
    .
My suggestions are cetaphil or qv first up – they`re great cheapies with no nasties that are very moisturising. I`m actually going to go back to one of them to try and settle my skin also. Just be warned – I found my face stung from the QV day cream (with SPF) – as soon as I sweat just a little, I think it`s the SPF that stings my skin, which has happened with a few products.
    .
My second suggestion is Nivea Q10 night cream – I used to use this and LOVED it! Didn`t cause pimples, and it`s lovely and rich (SPF free) – and made my skin soft and smooth overnight.
    .
As for the natural vs non-natural debate – some people argue that you shouldn`t put chemicals on your skin as your skin absorbs them into your blood stream – which is obviously not good. On the other hand, other people argue that people have reactions to some natural products as the `natural` ingredients are not always as stable as the controlled non-natural ingredients. Also a lot of ppl have reactions to certain essential oils.
    .
Basically I think the best thing to do is to avoid the well known ingredients that we know are bad for you – ie mineral oil, parabens, SLS, etc. (I don`t have a full list on me – others may be able to help out here). And like beautybee does – look up products on that website she uses which rates the products harmfulness.
    .
Oh and lastly, the she cream looks great – thanks to Music`s research we know she is nasty-free – and the ingredients like rosehip oil, Q10 and the vitamins are what I`d personally look for in a night cream too!

Has anyone had any experience with Avene Skin Recovery Cream? From the reviews it sounds quite good, although considering it contains 67% water and mineral oil $39 seems a bit expensive for 40ml!

Thanks for your replies Tkm and Whiterabbit. I would love to try Dermalogica but think it`s a bit out of my price range. I think I might go back to the Simple one as Whiterabbit suggested and see how I go from there =) Ooh I looked at some Lush products a while ago Whiterabbit but I decided not to get any as I was worried they might expire quite quickly? Some of the face masks sound sooo good, like the cupcake one, yum!

hi eskimo, i was going to suggest trying cetaphil or simple or qv, when i saw your last sentence! i think it`s the way to go until your skin settles down. i`m a big fan of lush and their skin products. they have a cream called `celestial` which is for sensitive skin, it`s so gentle i`ve even used it on baby. it`s still rich enough to be a night cream, and smells divine!

i love anything dermalogica…bit expensive but very concentrated therefore lasts a long time!
active moist is nice for combination skin.
i also don`t mond products from origins.
