Hair dye causes cancer
I Just learnt that most hair dyes increase the risk of bladder cancer lymphoma, and leukaemia so ive been looking around trying to find ones that havent got those harmful chemicals in them i was told to go to http://www.actnaturals.com but its american dont think they have them in australia. Does anyone know of any good ones that wont harm you?

BB is right – our skin is so absorbent – that`s why we have to be careful about what we apply to it. I agree with bronzebaby too – so much these days is being linked to causing cancer, but unfortunately that`s the reality of the world we live in today – all the technology we have has advanced us but to what detriment? They`re even saying now that the chemicals in SPF sunscreen may cause cancer? It`s very scary – but at least we can try and minimise what we can…

I`ve worked at a health shop and I no they sell natural hair dyes without chemicals. In fact one lady buys the hair dyes from shop to use in her salon. I know one of the brands is herbatint which is free of harsh chemicals and ammonia.

I also agree with bronze baby on this one..our entire lifestyle is destined for ill health. Poor quality foods, chemicals and preservatives, lack of exercise all contribute to sickness and disease. We don`t live in a perfect world and there is no way to avoid these things all of the time. Stay healthy and look after your body as best you can is all you can do! -

I would have to agree with BB on this I had a look at the website that lists ingredients in hair dye and I am going to use a friendlier alternative. I read an article the other day and back when our grandparents were young the cancer rate was 1 in 90 and today it is sooooo much higher. Some chemicals in cosmetices, hair products etc have been proven to be contributing and this scares me to rethink what I have been using. I hope that some of these chemicals don`t have the same fallout as asbestos has. Years ago it was also thought to be safe.

Hi Wibbles221 – Up to 60% of the products that you put on your skin are absorbed by your body and enter the blood stream. That is why patches for hormone replacement therapy and smoking to name a few are put on the skin and not taken orally.

There are so many things that may pose a risk to our health – possibly including hair dye and aluminium deodorant (I`m not supporting or rejecting either)etc – but there are many other risky practices like illegal drug use and overindulgence in alcohol that we KNOW do much harm to our bodies (and also external damage to other people and property). If we were to take a holistic approach to protecting our health, focusing on all aspects of our lives, and encourage others to be responsible as well, we would all be happier and healthier!

I`m with PrettyinPink on this one, Until it`s a proven fact and there are official warnings in place – I`m gonna keep dying my hair when it needs it. Aren`t there all natural hair dyes with hardly any (if any at all) chemicals in them available anyway? I`m sure I`ve seen them in a few health shops and definetely online.
In saying all that, this is still scary news as a lot of you have said. Just another thing we can add to an ALREADY very long list of things that can unfortunetly cause cancer 🙁 -

Hi Selaspy – If you have ever had a look at the list of chemicals that is put into hair dye and then checked the toxicity of these chemicals you would think twice about hair dye. Our body absorbs up to 60% of what is put on it and it then enters the blood stream. Babies these days are born with hundreds of chemicals in their blood compared to years ago.
You might like to check out the folllowing website, which lists ingredients in our beauty products and studies that have proven their harmfulness.
http://www.cosmeticdatabase.com/
There are countries like Canada and America that have banned ingredients because they are toxic and yet our government does nothing and has no `watchdog` in place to check on what goes into our beauty products. I hope you find the above website as interesting as I did.
Cheers

Hi Beauty05, just to let you know I have read that hairdressers do have a higher risk of some cancers due to occupational exposure to chemicals. Don`t know about beauty therapists though. You are probably more likely to get dermatitis if anything, especially if you have sensitive skin. Not sure about the regular hair dyeing causing cancer. I asked my doctor if it was safe to colour my hair during pregnancy and he said it was fine. I guess as always it is a personal choice if you take the risk.
