guy with false nails

Hi all,

This may be considered weird but hey, you only live once!

I’m a guy with a few questions about false nails… Firstly, I’ve never worn them, but am slowly coming to terms with an interest in exploring my feminine side. I’m interested in temporarily trying a nice, perhaps neat french manicure, or something similarly conservative and modern (i’m 30). How long do they last for? How long is needed to get them done? Obviously I’m not super keen in hanging out at a salon for hours, so does anyone know anywhere discreet to get them done in Melb…? What about removing them??

Any help is appreciated!

If you want to just try glue-on ones for a day or so, try putting a layer of clear polish on before sticking on the glue ones. You`re not meant to wear nail polish with glue-on ones as it stops the glue from adhering as well as they could but that should help you remove the nails at the end of the day.

My friend did this once, for a party, and by the end she had already lost a few of her nails on the dance floor. Given that you probably won`t be engaged in activity as energetic as dancing, this tactic might help you get nails that`ll hold til you pry at them with some decent amount of force.

Properly done artificial nails are not something that you`re going to just have on for one day. Double sided taped stick-ons would be far better for that short timeframe.

As for biting nails, there is a coating that you can buy for nails that makes them very bitter. You apply it to your nails for a while and eventually you grow out of biting because of the taste. Even if you didn`t want to grow your nails out, I`d suggest that you use this stuff to break the biting habit.

As a crossdresser who is out and about in public, I have to say that I don`t want equality of the sexes. It would take away all of the fun. 🙂

Well I have considered letting mine grow, but I dont think I could last – I am a little bit of a biter (not severely though). I live near Melbourne. Thing is that I know I`d only wear them for no more than a day, so I`m torn between trying a quick stick-on job and getting them done properly and realistically (and pretty) so I can see what it`s like to try some cool nice colours…!!

Bring on equality of the sexes I say!!!!!

What area do you live? i am not on the mainland so cant suggestion any salons there. but i am sure if you went into a nail salon they would be very professional and your gender wouldnt matter. It would be discriminative and unpforessional if they didnt, but i am sure many salons cater for all genders.

Have you considered simply letting your own nails grow out a bit then getting them professionally shaped and polished?

    JUST A SUGGESTION
why dont you try some fake glue on nails first and then if you like the feel of the fake nails go for something a bit more permanent as the ones you get done in the salon you would have for a couple of weeks (at least that way you will know if you want to continue to wear them and you could take them off if you didnt like them)

hmmm, this does sound a little complicated, at least to the uninitiated… Are there any salons you recommend? Or maybe a home salon (more discreet) that would support me doing this? …I dont want to waltz into just any old salon saying `hi, im here for a pretty french mani please`…!!

Yep i see. Well they are p[retty easy if you are doing a french manicure at home. You apply a base coat first. when that is dry put the little white strip across your nail depending how much white you want. Paint the tip of the nail that is sectioned off and wait for it to dry. Once it is dry rip off the white strip trying not to get the polish and do the same to all your other nails. When you have finished all you do is apply the final colour coat, usually beige or pink and your done. not really hard at all. i hope you go well wangan! LOl

Hmmm.. thanks for this tip. Might look into these…

Unfortunately I don`t even really know anyone who even has much pride in having nice nails, much less anyone with experience doing them properly! Hence is why I`m asking semi-anonymously on here…

Hey Wangan welcome to the forums:) If you want to put on fake nails , i wouldn`t advise it. If you only want to wear them for a day or so they can be really hard to get off, especially if you use glue on ones! or if you spend money getting them done at a salon only to wear them for a day or so, presuming that is what you wana do? A guy wearing nails is different, i havent really come across it before but i admire you for wanting to explore your feminine side! A french manicure sounds great. You can go to a salon and get it done or for a cheaper quicker option you can do it yourself. there are little kits which contain the polish and little white strips and everything. If you have a partner or friend who has experience with french manicures they could help you.
