Thanks so much beautystar! I have a big pot that just has nothing growing in it, so strawbs can go in there…

I love how we all are so into fresh fruit and vegies. Its soo good to grow and eat your own – its so satisfying!

I have a huge green thumb. Last season i grew spinach, mustard, fenugreek, cucumbers, huge crop of tomatoes (roma) . chilli plants, capsicum, coriander, beans, mint and coriander.

Also grew bukchoy but for some reason it attracted a lot of snails to my yard whereas i normally wouldn’t have any.

I only grow enough for the 3 of us and a bit extra for the family.

Wow an almond tree would be great! I’ve never owned a nut tree. It’s fun getting potatoes out of the ground 😉

I remember it was a lot of work since there’d be heaps of almonds and you had to get them down before the cockatoos tried eating them. Don’t think they’d last here in NSW cause of all the possums but in SA they were great. My grandma used to take them out of their shells then blanch them so i’m really picky with almonds now, I hate eating almond skin.

I’d love to have a vegie garden but everyone in my house is really time poor. Half the time i’m the one watering my bf’s mum’s plants.

Still it’d be awesome if we could grow our own potatoes, carrots, cucumbers, strawberries, etc. I remember as a kid my grandparents had their own almond tree, mandarin tree, pomegranate tree, lemon tree and fig tree. They had a huge backyard so they grew seasonal vegies too and had free range chickens. I’m trying to go more organic now with my food and all the stuff I ate before and though “this doesn’t tast as good as I remember” tastes so much better organic.

E.g. Mandarins. Normal ones just taste like chemicals to me. I bought mandarin juice once, big mistake, it was like trying to drink detergent. Organic mandarins, now they’re worth eating (and i don’t eat much fruit & veg.

BQ the blueberries are the nelly Kelly variety fro
Bunnings – same with my strawberries and chillis. If you put strawberries in the ground remember to put straw around them to protect them from slugs and snails but they seem to be ok in a pot. All I do with my blueberries is water them most days in summer as it’s bloody hot in my courtyard and maybe once a week in winter. In spring I’ll give it some osmacote fruit fertilizer pellets and once a fortnight or so give it some seasol or some worm juice from my worm farm. The blueberries are so delicious – so much sweeter and stronger flavor than shop ones

Cherry tomatoes are super easy! We had them a few years ago, just plant, water a few times and let them go.

Our dog used to eat the ripe ones off the vine, so we have some random cherry tomatoes still popping up 😉 In those little out of the way spots… LOL 😉
