Flakey skin HELP!!

Ok so this has gone beyond ridiculous and I seriously need some help! I am endlessly battling flakey skin on my face – mostly just around the nose and just under the eyes on the cheeks. I currently use Dermalogica Ultra Calming cleanser, soothing protection spray (toner), skin smoothing cream for day, intensive moisture balance for night, also have barrier repair which I put on that area during the day. I also apply certified organic rosehip oil under my moisturiser day and night. I also have Body Shop vit e moisture mask which I use at least every second day. And I’m still battling the bloody flakey skin! Someone please help…is there some awesome moisturising mask out there I should try? What am I doing wrong…do I need to start doing the bicarb exfoliation thing on a reg basis?? What do I do??? HELP!!!

btw has any of you notice when you apply tinted moisturiser or liquid foundation, it always flake off or sometime `rolls off`? and you can see the dry patches on ur face?
I have oily sensitive skin and use a moisturiser good enough to hydrate my skin. though when it comes to applying foundations well thats a different problem…
Do you know how to fix this? it happens especially around the upper lip, nose and cheeks

Ok just to update – have trialled my Elemis mask – love it! I have also got some samples of Dermalogica Daily Micoroexfoliant – which I really want to buy now as I love that too (not using at same time as Elemis mask!!). Sticking with my dermalogica skin smoothing cream as it`s amazing – but ditching the intensive moisture balance moisturiser once I finish it as it`s too oily for me. Instead I`m going back to using Nivea Q10 night cream for now.
    .
However as for the specific flakey areas – someone suggested it could be dermatitis – so I tried using some of the ointment I have for the dermatitis I get on my arms (which I`ve gotten rid of thanks to not using shower gels with SLS anymore) – and it cleared it up! It`s not 100% better just yet…but at least I`m getting somewhere! Thanks again for all suggestions 🙂

  • Have you tried taking a bath in warm water for around an hour?

Try dip your face in and out as much as possible.
Then when you come out, slather on moisturiser to seal in the water in your skin.
It keeps the water in so your skin is more hydrated and flakes less often. (:

Hi PDMA I took Music`s suggestion and tried out the She cleanser – it`s AMAZING! Seriously felt so lovely and soothing on my skin, and my skin just felt so soft afterwards! I`m currently alternating it with my derm ultra calming cleanser, but considering swtiching to it altogether…
    .
Haven`t yet tried out the Elemis mask – haven`t had time – but my flakiness has calmed down since using the she cleanser so I`m very happy about that!

I`ve stuck with my derm moisturisers as using cetaphil moisturiser on my face made me break out. So still loving skin smoothing cream and intensive moisture balance.

Annyex do you use the cetaphil range for oily skin?

Thanks Shannont – that actually makes a lot of sense! I do notice an oily sheen after using the intensive moisture one – but not with the skin smoothing! Still love them both anyway.

Thanks for the advice with the daily exfoliant as well – I had a facial last night and was chatting to my beauty therapist about it, and about the one I`d bought. She mentioned that not only does the daily exfoliant have tiny particles of rice or something? But also has fruit acids so it`s like a double whammy. So it does sound really good. But I have just bought the Elemis mask and am looking forward to seeing how that goes – she liked the sound of that one too. She also uses Indio products on me (as well as Dermalogica) and she used this amazing cleanser that was really creamy, but also had fruit enzymes in it – and boy is my skin lovely and smooth today! No flakiness at the moment – yay!
    .
Thanks for all the advice though ladies – I`ll hopefully find the perfect skincare routine eventually – and I will report back on the results of the Elemis mask.

In regards to the Skin smoothing cream and intensive moisture balance.. Skin smoothing is intended for a normal/dry but mostly dehydrated skin conditions.. thats why the consistency is actually quite a bit different to most other moisturizers on the market.. the intensive moisture balance is definately for a dry skin type… this actually contains more Vitamin E and oil to replenish a dry skin with oil…

Remember Dehydration = lack of water in the skin, and dryness = lack of oil

you can actually see the oily sheen on intensive moisture balance where as skin smoothing although it feels heavier, wil not leave you with the same finish on your skin.

    Hope this is helpful 🙂
