Eye Cream

I had a quick search through and couldn;t find a post on Eye Cream – Sorry If I have over looked!

I hear all about Eye Cream but have never really fully understood it’s purposes. I see things about dark circles, fine lines, puffyness etc. So I pose these questions you you lovely, helpful beauties;

  • Do they all do the same thing?
  • I am 21 – should I be using an eye cream?
  • If so – which eye cream should I use?

Ahh!

I know I need an eye cream, but I think it’s largely to do with my skintype. I have combo skin, so the products I use on my face just aren’t as rich or mositurising enough for my eye area.

For sure scent, same here, my skin is oily so my facial products are never going to be hydrating enough, nor do they usually target all of the concerns I want to focus on around my eye area 🙂
Paula Begoun has a big mouth sometimes and can be very misleading to consumers, she also tries to get everyone to purchase her products, while she does make a few good points everything she says needs to be taken with a grain of salt, lol.

i think eye creams are a marketing con. They dont do anything!

Agreed. they’re usually watered down versions of the main face creams, except so much more expensive. Cosmetics Cop says your eye area doesn’t need anything your face doesnt, and vica versa, so why buy 2 separate creams to do the 1 job?

I have to disagree, I never use to bother with eye creams much, but now that I am in my thirties I can’t do without one. They keep my eye area hydrated and the good ones plump up the skin in the area, making it smoother, softer and firmer. Ones with skin rejuvenating ingredients will slough off dead skin cells, which makes the area brighter and healthier looking. Also certain ones are a godsend for reducing puffiness, which pretty much makes it a necessity when I am lacking in sleep, keeping it in the fridge just makes it so much more effective in the mornings when I need it the most 🙂 But at the end of the day other than the ones that brighten the actual skin, nothing will really reduce the actual dark colour 🙁

I love Trilogy Eye Cream – it’s expensive for $44 but it has lots of soothing ingredients like aloe vera and rosehip oil which make a big difference to my dark circles and general puffiness. I pop it in the fridge so that it feels cool upon application which is especially nice in Summer 🙂

I have hereditary dark circles so I dont’ think any eye creams can really help me out.
I’ve tried Dr Lewinn’s puressence and it didn’t do much for me. I’ve yet to try to Lancome or the NAR eye complex but don’t hold much hope either.

My favourite is the Laura Mercier concealer to hide these dark circles instead.

Most eye creams will do nothing for black bags under your eyes. Possibly the ones that contain skin brightening ingredients could help brighten the skin in that area and make the bags less noticeable, from what I have worked out the best bet for bags is to invest in a top notch concealer 😉
As for using eye creams, I would suggest starting in your teens, you know prevention is so much better than cure, by the time you get toward your late 20s if you have not used eye cream it will probably begin to show. I think a really good starting point would be the Dr Lewinns Puressence Eye Gel, it is lovely and lightweight and really brightens up the eye area. Another one that I would hightly recommend and is one that I use myself, for during they day when I don’t want something too rich or heavy on my oily skin is a new gel based one by A’kin, all natural as well so thats even better 🙂 As for my holy grail the eye cream that I have found to be the best of the best is definitely Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Synchronized Complex, this is tiny and expensive but it really is the bomb of eye creams, haha 🙂

Thank you so much melmeko! This is an extreamly helpful post. I am a fan of Dr Lewinns so I will definately have a look at that better on here and when I am in Priceline next (Seriously can;t get me out of there once I walk in)

And I can;t agree with you more about the concealer. I use MAC Concealers and they are amazing.

I’ve tried a few different eye creams but I found most of them rubbed off and made my makeup under the eyes a little cakey. I’m currently using Lancome’s Genifique Youth Activating eye cream and it doesn’t rub off and absorbs nicely. I’ve found my dark circles have faded a little, it’s less puffy and the skin under the eyes is soft and moisturised.

I had actaully never thought of the fact the eye cream could flake uner make-up! Thanks for that Evanescencessy =)

I’ve used the dr lewinns puressence range & loved it! Especially the eye gel. The only thing I didn’t like about it was the no SPF factor unfortunately

No it doesn’t have SPF, not really sure if the A’kin one I love so much has it either, its not something I normally worry about. I am pretty much covered with my foundation and my moisturiser that both have SPF and I live in Sunglasses the minute I step outside, so not overly worried about SPF in an eye cream, depending on the product also I don’t like certain sun protection products too close to my eyes as they can really sting sensitive eyes.
