Epilator

I love my new epilator (despite taking a while to get used to the pain!) however I am getting quite bad ingrown hairs- much worse than from waxing. I’ve tried exfoliating but it doesn’t seem to fix it all that much. Has anyone else experienced this and if so how have you overcome it?

Dredging up an old thread because I`m too lazy to start a new one (or find the new one that inspired me to dig out my epilator and give it another chance).
So, as I just said above, I have a Braun Silk Epil that`s been languishing in the bathroom drawer, and was prompted to get it out after reading a recent thread about them. I never much liked it before, it hurt, took ages, didn`t get all the hair, left red bumps etc etc, but this time I seem to have more patience for it (I think being in the mood for beauty treatments helps) and I think it`ll become a staple. But I have some questions…
How often do you use them?
How soon after the first go do you do it again to get the too short hairs?
I have a couple of bottles of hair retarding lotion from my waxing days, those “”3 in 1″” types, is that all I need to get the most out of it?
How long does it take for the hair to reduce?
I think that about covers it 🙂

If you`re getting ingrown hair from an epilator, the hairs are breaking below the surface of the skin. Your epilator may be too powerful and pulling the hair to hard or too fast for your type of body hair. Try turning down the speed of the tweezers to give the teeth a chance to grasp hold & pull the entire root out.

    Good luck

    > What a great tip! I have just started to epilate to save money and for the at home anytime convenience, I epilate one a week. I was a waxer before that, and did find a little adjusting to the process! A bit painful but used to it now. I do get some ingrowns so I`m looking forward to trying dover`s tip. Holding the skin taut and doing it the night before I want smooth legs gives the bumps a chance to go down. I have an older one and would really love to try a newer one!

the sound of the braun wet/dry dual scared me from using it but now i`m getting used to it and the technique involved find it quick, easy and relative painless. So far i`m happy with the results. I haven`t had in-growns yet but I always exfolaite my legs the night before epilating to help give smooth surface to epilate.

I have bought many epilators over the years but always end up giving up on them as I suffer terribly with ingrown hairs on my legs.
Has anyone found a foolproof way to prevent / treat them? I love the long lasting effect of the epilator but the ingrowns make me wear trousers all the time and they take ages (months) to heal and they almost always leave a mark.
    Any advice is welcome!
