Electric blanket suggestion?

Random topic I know – but I feel the need for the first time ever to buy an electric blanket as I’m really not coping with this freezing weather! Actually losing sleep coz I wake up cold every night! So can anyone recommend me where to buy, how much to spend, brands, what to look for etc? I have no idea! Thanks 🙂

Ok so I ended up with a great one – didn`t want to spend too much money, but at same time wanted it to be easy to use/wash etc. Can`t remember the brand – but got one with 3 heat settings, separate zones, it`s fitted, controllers are removable for washing purposes, automatic overheat safety function – retailed at $109.95 at Target but luckily for me it was 30% bed stuff so got it for $75 – and I`m loving it! Best investment ever – now I`m always toasty warm at night! 🙂 Thanks for all the suggestions ladies – made it much easier looking at all the options and picking the best one!

The electric blanket I have gets warmer at end end (near the feet) which is great for me as my feet are always freezing cold lol. Also, it is fitted and the controls come off so it is machine washable. I bought it from one of those Warehouse type stores a few months back and have had no problems. It was only about $50. I only use it to warm up the bed before I get in and then switch it off…

the sunbeam kingsly ones are very good…they`re soft as well 🙂 tie down ones tend to be cheaper so get those if you don`t have a preference.

Thanks mishmoshy – sounds like that`s all I need – glad it`s not going to cost me too much! 🙂

Spiteful I do have a hot water bottle – but I just also got myself a queen size bed (upgraded from a double) and I just find too much surface area to have to keep warm with just the bottle! Hence the need for electric blanket…looking forward to being warm and toasty every night! 🙂

My solution, hot water bottle. I get one made everynight and put into my bed so im warm when im settling in. Usually because i have so many doonas its well insulated enough to keep me comfortably warm by morning plus the water goes on the garden. But im looking for an electric blanket myself.

My mum bought one from Myer during the stocktake sale not long ago. It was $60, machine washable, had 3 heat settings and you could choose between a fitted and a tie-on one. It also had a nice fleecy top =)
Not sure about the prices now, but i think if you`re just looking to warm up the bed before you jump in, something around the $50 mark will be fine. I`ve had mine for around 5 years now =) and its still going strong!

Thanks mmm – I think that`s more what I`m looking at spending! I only get cold when I`m by myself in bed – when I have a boyfriend I`m fine! haha

The electric blanket I had before now was a cheapie, `no frills` one & it did me ok, it was a Target one & it only cost me $30 or $40, I had it for about 6 years & if you just want it to warm you up that`s prob all you need. I just have a nice one now cos it was a gift from my Mum, I would never actually spend that much myself.

Thanks ladies – I don`t really want to spend too much on one – the 6 settings sound nice – but I sort of want it more just to warm up my bed before I get in – and maybe gain later if I wake up cold! Don`t really want it on all night long or anything! Might have a look at target/kmart this weekend and see what I can find!

I just got a new one, but I can`t remember the name! It`s really good though & I think it was a bit exxxy, around $180 for a queen, but I think it`s worth it. You want one with 6 or more heat settings, I used to have one with 3 & there was a big difference in temperatures, i have one with 9 now & it`s very easy to find a temperature that`s comfortable. Also they now have ones with elastic to hold them onto the mattress (like a fitted sheet) which is easier than the old tie on ones. Another thing is DEFINITELY get one that`s machine washable, you can now take off the electric parts & just chuck it in the washing machine. You can get them from just about anywhere now too- Target, Kmart, Myer, etc. Hmmmmmmmm, what else………. oh yeah if you have a partner get an electric blanket that has seperate sides, we have a temperature thing on each side & you can choose what temp you want your side on or even if you want it off entirely.
