Drying causes more blemishes?

So after suffering with acne since I was 13 (now 22) I think I’ve finally cracked into what was causing it (apart from hormones but that’s another story).
I think it’s actually the acne products I’ve been using that have made it worse! (Who’d have thought???)

So I’ve concluded my skin is not actually that oily, but I’ve been over-drying it with oily skin moisturisers, acne cleansers, toners and spot treatments. I stopped all that for a week while I was on holiday and I was really surprised, the redness really went down, and I was getting less and less new pimples. MIRACLE!!!

But now I’m struggling to find the right moisturiser, I’ve been using Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturising GEL for about a year/18 months now, and thought I loved that, but I think it’s too drying.
Would anyone recommend the LOTION for a combination skin? Or have you got something else you would recommend for crazy skin like mine? HA!
ohhh i need help….

I am in total agreement – I too have been using products to dry out the skin in the hopes of reducing acne but then had a thought that maybe I am causing the problem or making it worse anyway so I too have decided to go back to basics. I am using a dove cleanser and toner in one (thats how basic I have gone) and I can see a difference, I have no new pimples and just with the use of a spot treatment they are slowly clearing up. But I am also not sure as to which moisturiser to use during the day which is when my skin still produces alot of oil. I just know that Im going to buy one and find something better – always happens to me.

I am in exactly the same position having suffered with acne for the most part of my life.. It was only when i through out everything and went back to basics, that is rinsing my face with warm water only night and day, moisturising twice a day and exfoliating twice a week.. Especially when i have acne. I used to not moisturise thinking it would dry the acne out, i was so wrong. It hasnt mattered so much the type of moisturiser i have used as long as i followed this routine.

http://www.beautyheaven.com.au/forums/7/topics/4692 It is called the acne topic,

    Hi Jen 🙂

If you post anything that you have concerning pimples/acne etc, pop it in this thread. If you have a look through it, there is a huge amount (about 30+ pages) of the bh gals discussing anything to do with acne. Pop your query in there – some of us frequent the thread, and you will get an answer.. it just saves clogging (excuse the pun) the forums =D
