Dry, flaky skin on back and neck

Recently, I have gotten really bad dry patches of skin on my back, neck and close to my hairline. The dryness is in patches (not the whole area) and the patches are very pink and raw looking. I’ve been using Redwin sorbolene moisturiser for sensitive skin and its helping, but still the patches wont go away completely. The body wash I’m using is supposed to be moisturizing too.

Could anyone recommend any moisturizers for this problem?
Do you think it could be eczema or something similar?

Campiric, it does sound like ecezema or something similar so see your local GP but other products to try to help include:
    AVENE Sensitive Calming Moisturiser
NUTRIMETICS Nutri-Rich Oil which is great for healing
MANICARE Dry Body Brush to gently buff off the dead skin cells on your neck and back
Let me know if this helps xx

Cetaphil is very gentle and i`m using their moisturiser at the moment, hope your skin goes back to normal

if its really bad.. it might be infected if it hasnt healed properly.. i`ve had to get prescription creams to make alot of my ecezma go away .. definately keep using the sorblene though..

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I`ve decided to get it checked at the chemist. Hopefully they can recommend a wash or cream that isn`t too expensive.. else I`m going to try Cetaphil body wash, as I`m currently using a Cetaphil face wash and it works nicely.

Hi vampiric music is right – does sound like ezcema or a reaction to something. I suffer from mild dermatitis – mostly just during winter – on my arms, shoulder and upper back. Best thing is to go for the most natural, nasty-free shower wash and moisturiser you can find – there`s plenty of brands out there – look for ones without SLS, soap free, fragrance free, etc. Pure Innosense is a brand you can buy at priceline – very cheap (liek $3 a bottle) and they have shower gel and moisturiser. You`ll probably need some sort of cream to help clear up the dry patches too – I use this stuff (need a prescription) which is called fatty ointment – it`s really thick and heavy but smooths on and protects at the same time – helps clear it up. But if I use any old shower gel or heavily fragranced products, it`s more aggravated.

Hi Vampiric. It does sound like excema. Or it might be an ingredient in your shampoo/other hair products that doesn`t agree with your skin. The best bet is to show it to a pharmacist, he/she will be able to tell you what that is and recommend some creams that might be suitable. Their advice is free and they know what they are talking about, plus no waiting around like at GP.

Re: moisturising body wash, don`t believe it, I`ve used plenty of supposedly “”moisturising”” that are drying to the skin. Try using mild/non-soap body wash like Cetaphil or QV. Also try pure shea butter for moisturiser.
