Digital Camera….help!

hey girls

i am going to ask santa (boyfriend) for a digital camera for xmas.
I don’t want him to spend more than say 250.
What do i need to look for in a digital camera?
I was at a concert last night, my seats were quite high up in the satdium. I want a camera that will be able to zoom into the stage and take good pics. So what is the zoom that i need?
Help! I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I HAVE TO LOOK FOR!

    Hey amy j
That sounds great. I actually went with my dad to stallards camera world the other day and we were looing at i think it was the 400 or another model as well as the 450 and the guy said that they were basically the same, except with a few tiny diff features like a grip pad on the front and back which was great. I hope you get the lense you want 🙂

    Hi SQ,
Just realised I wrote I had the 450D, I meant the 400D (used to saying 450D at work as it`s the current model). I`ve been really happy with my 400, and the 450D`s basically the same with a few extra features. I so want a wide angle lens…..the Canon 10-22 is on my wish list.

My dad is currently looking at getting the canon 450d with a single wide angle lense. It has really great features and is great with the one lenses so you dont have to switch! If he does get it i can guarentee him i will be borrowing it a lot… heehee

    Hi Mishmoshy,
Sorry I`ve been away since last Tues morn so didn`t see your post. In that price range, probably you`re only option is the Pentax K200D, you can buy with a basic lens (18-50) for between 6-700 depending on what sort of deal you can negotiate. Great basic SLR, with lots of features for the beginner, as well as a stabiliser and dust reduction. Can be used fully auto, with a bunch of pre set picture modes or completely manual. It does run on AA batteries. Other option is to save up a little more and aim for something in the base level of Canon or Nikon (say a Canon 1000D or Nikon D60), these cost between 8-900 but run on a rechargeable battery. However the Pentax is a decent camera even though it`s quite cheap for an SLR, in fact my dad just purchased the previous model of this on my recommendation (he`s a pentax user from way back), and he has so far been very happy with it, although he only takes pics for a hobby and mostly used automatic.

    Hope this helps.

Sorry, can`t really help you with entry level SLRs. In that price range, I`d be looking for a compact with high resolution and lots of zoom. I don`t think I`ve ever seen a digital SLR under about $900, but I only buy cameras and use them, I don`t sell them. I haven`t looked at cameras since I bought the 40D in June so I don`t really know what`s out there right now.

    Hey AliceJane, AmyJ,
You both sound like you know what you`re talking about with cameras 🙂
I was wondering if you could help me?
I`m looking for a good entry level SLR around the $500-$700 mark. Could you tell me what should i be looking for, and what are some good entry level SLR`s?

    Thanks a bunch!

SQ, they are AA rechargeable batteries designed for high-drain devices like cameras, so they fit any camera that takes AA batteries. I found out the hard way that energizer rechargable AAs don`t like digital cameras. I bought the eneloops from batteryworld, as I mentioned above. They have been great and of the 5 sets I bought, one pack is still unopened, one set is in my GPS, two sets are in my 2 Canon powershot cameras and one set is charged ready to swap. I`ve had them for a few years, not sure exactly without looking for the receipt.

AmyJ, the 40D is only a 10 megapixel camera but it is great. I have barely scratched the surface of the things that it can do. It`s amazing how often you can just point and shoot without even bothering with settings and still get great photos!
