Dental assistant/nursing Career
Hi ladies!
I am looking at a career change and was considering doing a dental assistant trainee-ship.
I was wondering if any beauties have any experience in this field and what your view point and advice would be?
Any info is much appreciated =D

To me, it seems like a job you’d really have to enjoy to make it worthwhile. I respect those that do it day in day out!

I would be interested in hearing from others about this career path. Having decided I don’t suit the corporate world (working in finance) I have been offered a dental assistant role but I had no idea the money was so bad $18 an hour! Does it get better? Happy to drop in payat the prospect of eventually earning more…I have no desire to be on 100k but I will be earnibg less than I did in retail!

I’m impressed with your income. I went down the nursing path and I earn around the same (although I don’t work full time).
Is it like nursing where your income goes up yearly with the hours that you put in?
I’m almost keen to look for a position myself that is more suitable with school hours.
Thanks for the insight. -

I have been a Dental Assistant for 13 years now. I gained a TAFE qualification and pretty much got offered a job right away. The job has good and bad sides. I work for the government so I get a load of benefits and shorter working hours. In private practice expect to work long hours. It all depends on the kind of practice you work at and more importantly the dentist/dentists you work with. Dentists can be a funny bunch and hard to work with/for, that’s what I find the most frustrating. Expect to earn anywhere between $40,000 to $60,000 if you are really good and have many years experience. Some days I feel like all I am is a glorified cleaner and general dogsbody. There is a huge amount of cleaning and sterilising involved, so not really all that glamourous. I wouldn’t work in private practice again and if I did, it would be doing reception or practice management. At least with my current job I can take a day off sick and not get told off or made to feel bad. Also physically the job takes a toll (hands and back) due to holding the suction and leaning over a lot. It is a stable job as there is a skills shortage for Dental Assistants.

Thank You pinkvanillaa!!
Lots of blood aye, sounds fun hahahaha I think it is something I will just accept. When I first got into beauty and was being taught Electrolysis I thought there is no chance I could ever out a needle in someone, and now I d it and don’t think twice!
I appreciate the heads up though =D

Good luck Suzi! I heard dental assistant does pay well in the long run and it does depend who you work for. I;m sure if you work a cosmetic dental nurse it will pay more.
